Salt Lake Chamber gives out Sloan awards -- Sixteen organizations along the Wasatch Front received Alfred P. Sloan awards from the Salt Lake Chamber on Wednesday in Salt Lake City. The award-winners are Intermountain Financial Group/Mass Mutual, Café Rio, Cooper Roberts Simonsen Associates Inc., SelectHealth, McKinnon-Mulherin, Intermountain Healthcare, Stayner Bates & Jensen, Cactus & Tropicals, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, AAA Fair Credit Foundation, Redmond Incorporated, Employer Solutions Group, Backcountry.com, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Company of Utah, 1-800-Contacts, and Verizon Wireless.

The Sloan Awards recognize businesses for instituting and implementing greater workplace flexibility in order to improve performance and bottom-line outcomes as well as employees' quality of life.

Giving Back

Smith's teaming up with Red Cross to provide disaster relief -- Now through Oct. 4, customers of Smith's Food & Drug can make a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund simply by adding any amount to their checkout purchase. All funds collected will directly benefit Red Cross disaster relief efforts, like the hurricanes of 2008.

Donations to the Disaster Relief Fund enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other essential needs to victims of disasters.
