Zions' reports second-quarter net income of $145.3 million -- Zions Bancorp. on Thursday said its net income for the second quarter, which ended June 30, jumped to $145.3 million, or $1.35 per diluted share, from $118.8 million, or $1.30 per diluted share a year ago.

The Salt Lake City-based bank's earnings include $5.6 million in after-tax expenses related to the acquisition of Amegy Bancorp. Inc. "We are pleased to again report record quarterly earnings, driven by very strong loan growth in commercial real estate and a relatively stable net interest margin," said Harris H. Simmons, chairman and chief executive officer. "On-balance sheet loans and leases grew $1.5 billion during the quarter, a record amount of growth, as economic activity remained strong throughout most of the West and Southwest."

On-balance sheet net loans and leases were $32.7 billion for the second quarter, up from $23.8 billion a year ago. Total deposits jumped to $33.3 billion from $32.9 billion a year ago.

Prudential Utah adds six sales agents -- Prudential Utah Real Estate, which has 18 offices statewide, added six sales agents and Realtors to its South Ogden office.

They are Peg Turner, JoNell Karling, Vicki Maughan, Molly Bitton, Trent Livingston and Kathy Coleman. These agents will each specialize in residential home sales.

Investment advisor opens SLC office, hires investment manager -- Fort Washington Capital Partners Group, an investment advisor, opened an office in Salt Lake City. The office will be managed by Peter O. Jarman, who joined the company in June as investment manager and regional director of private equity.

Fort Washington is the advisor to Utah Capital Investment Corp.'s $100 million Fund of Funds, which will make commitments to venture capitalists that invest in Utah-based companies. Jarman will be responsible for sourcing and evaluating various venture capital fund managers for the program. He had served as vice president of sales, marketing and product development for Roundy Inc., a Utah-based manufacturer and distributor of apparel to national grocery and drug channels. Jarman earned a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Utah and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
