Smith's expands generic drug program -- Smith's Food Drug is expanding its discounts on generic drugs, offering 90-day prescriptions for $10 and covering more women's health medications. The discounts are available starting Wednesday at all 131 of Smith's in-store pharmacies including six in Utah County.
Smith's said it is also increasing the number of women's health medications it offers at a discounted price. These specialized medications are available for $9 in 30-day supplies or $24 for a 90-day supply. They include drugs such as tamoxifen to treat breast cancer, combination estrogen/methyltestosterone for hormone replacement, as well as Alendronate, the generic version of osteoporosis medication Fosamax.
This initiative is part of a companywide program implemented by Smith's parent company, Kroger Co., at all 1,900 of its in-store pharmacies under its local banners including Smith's, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry's, King Soopers, Scott's, Ralphs, Dillons, QFC and City Market.
Last fall, Kroger and other retail chains including Smith's began offering more than 300 generic drugs for $4 per prescription.
