State economic development board names new director -- The Governor's Office of Economic Development named Derek B. Miller its managing director of the Corporate Recruitment & Incentives program.

Miller most recently served as director of the Utah Division of Real Estate since 2005. He has overseen the effort to overhaul the way the division serves its customers including creating a new Web site, redesigning application forms and processes, and implementing an online license management system. Those efforts resulted in improved processing times from five weeks to less than five days.

Miller also has overseen the division's enforcement activities including investigating and prosecuting companies and individuals engaged in fraud, and helping to establish the Utah Mortgage Fraud Task Force along with the U.S. Attorney and Utah Attorney General's Office.

He was also Congressional Counsel for the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, oversaw numerous federal government agencies and worked on the Highway and Transit Bill for the reauthorization of federal and state Department of Transportation programs.

Miller was also a management consultant with Arthur Andersen LLP, and supervised several consulting projects to conduct benchmarking studies, identify and implement best practices, develop strategic plans, redesign business processes and establish performance metrics.

He is a graduate of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, and also holds a Master of Public Administration from the University's Marriott School of Management.
