IN OUR VIEW: Landlord measure badly flawedThis proposed preferential treatment should shame any sane lds person here in the city into action.
We need another Jason Chaffetz or two to replace some in the city council: some seem be slipping upstairs, bats in the belfry, they seem too weak to be able to cohere together the lds church and its regard of people of color before 1978 and after 1978, up to the present time.
The proposed ordinance is an embarrassment to those of us of an LDS affiliation in Provo. The proposed ordinance's predecessor was no one with dark skin allowed in the lds priesthood.
"HEY! If you are a BYU student, that means you are Caucasian! You were righteous in the lds prelife!
But you, you over there! You are not a BYU student! So you are not Caucasian! A BLACK PAGAN YOU and YOUR TYPE are until we background check you! And if it comes up what we define as dirty, you have nothing, absolutely nothing to offer here in 'Pure City', I mean 'Provo City', Utah"
And then for the city attorney to say it wouldn't be preferential cause he could morph the meaning of the law to be "
any school with a code of conduct" and it would be legally ok ??? That is laughable!
Cause, theoretically, a school could have as a code of conduct this: A student must have plead guilty to one or more class A misdemeanors during their life.
(see, this could be a good thing because this school believes that having a for-real run-in with the law and judicial system makes their minds more fertile for learning, thus improving their chances with their studies)
I'm 40 years old; Mr. Stewart and crew are much more experienced, wiser and more honorable people. So how is it that even I, a lay-man with little authority and honor in Provo, can detect such stench in this proposed ordinance?
It's like the council has tapped their inner-Adolph Hitler or something. -unreal!-
