What I don't get from this is that Clarke seemed to be one of the top realtors in the area. He always had the million dollar home listings.

Why would a guy making that much money feel the need to delve into something like this?

The entire group of charges are the result of one (1) thing and that is GREED! I have known several of the defendants for quite a while. Some were even sucessful in their given fields. Sad but true, filthy lucor is addictive. For their families I feel bad but I hope everyone can learn from this and move on. Nothing is as hard to find as an honest man.

As if this is the only thing that has caused the banks and mortgage companies to over-extend themselves! The real travesty in this whole deal is that the real master-mind behind the scheme has yet to step forward and admit his guilt!!! It's too bad the Kitchens are getting the brunt of the bad-rap right now because they are a good family and truly mean well.

It will be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out and especially if each person involved - particlulary the master-mind!!!! - is punished in accordance with his specific invovlement in the planning and execution of the whole scheme.

In the meantime, I wish the Kitchen family the best and hope that all goes as good as possible under the circumstances.

I know most all of the families that are listed on the indictment and I have to disagree with the above posted comments.

Kitchen claims that Clarke approached him with this get rich quick scheme, but that makes no sense because Clarke has always had the big listings and didn't need any such scheme to get him into those big listings. Kitchen, on the other hand, was being sued by some container company for a huge loan that he defaulted on (I think Zions Bank) and was loosing everything. I know that the FBI was investigating him over an extremely controversial 'reverse mortgage" scheme that he started which people thought was a "get rich quick" scheme. So if I had to guess as to who came to who with the idea I would have to say that Kitchen is the mastermind of the whole thing.

In addition, lets look at these men's characters: Clarke is a Utah County Search and Rescue Volunteer and has been involved with multiple charities in Utah. Kitchen is a registered sex offender for having sex with an underaged minor who would babysit their kids, he has also been arrested for multiple fraud accounts, bad checks, etc.

Just based on the character of these two men, I would say that Kitchen is the one in the wrong here. He has the muddy background and at the time, he really had NOTHING to loose by coming up with such scheme.
