Maybe in your opinion "everyone" else gave up on him. Well, there are still quite a few military people that I know who do support him.
For all of the soldiers you know who are in favor of the war, I know just as many who are against the war. People could say our antedotal evidence means nothing. However, there are polls out there showing dwindling military support for the way Bush is going.
I do have a theory though I doubt anyone else will think about it:
What if the intelligence the Pres. Bush was given was the truth and the information that he is being given now is actually the lies? No, I don't have anything to back me up on this, it is just a thought that my hubby and I have played at. Considering the things that he saw and we have both read, it wouldn't take much for us to actually believe it.
That is just too nutty to have even a grain of truth. But if it makes you feel better, go for it.
I know that it sounds nutty, but, what IF it is truth. There IS truth somewhere among everything we have been told. I KNOW that there were things in Iraq at the beginning of this war that were NOT supposed to be there. I KNOW that things have been found that have not been reported by the liberal media. I have seen pictures and read articles that state these things to be true. The pictures are ones that my husband took. The articles were from reputable sources.
There have been missiles found that were still dangerous to our troops and insurgents wanted them to use against their own people and us. This is from a declassified document released last summer.
There have been reports of the UN inspectors having warehouses destroyed in Iraq without divulging what was in them. There was also a report last year about a warehouse found, with the help of a former Baath party member that was filled with barrels of chemicals. When mixed, these caused a deadly gas. Was this reported by the mainstream media?
I also know that there is a lot of good that has and is still continuing to happen there. But, we never hear about these things on the news, or seldom never. It doesn't sell or up the ratings.
There are people out there that from the very beginning of this war that would do anything to make it look wrong.
As much as I want all of our soldiers to be able to come home, I also know that right now it not a good time for this. I HATE the fact that we have lost ANY soldier, but, I also know that democracy for the Iraqi people takes time too. In the timeline of democracy and freedom, Iraq could still be compared to a new born infant. New borns are dependant on others to help them grow. Babies are not ready to start walking and running all by themselves the day after they are born. This takes time. For some babies it takes a short amount of time. For others, they may not be ready to walk until many months after people think they should be. Does this make them weak? No, it just means that they have to take things at a different pace. If they are rushed, they fall and then have to start all over.
The Iraqi people have been repressed for decades, and generations. What they are now trying to do is learn to be free. They don't know how to be free because they never had the opportunity. They want the freedom they we have tried to give them. They just need the support of others until they are ready to stand on their own.

None of what you said has anything to do with making policy for the future. And the great majority of the Iraqis and a solid majority of Americans both want the same thing -- us out of Iraq.
The war in Iraq was, is, and will forever be an incredible foreign policy disaster by the US, perhaps the worst, and the neo-cons will always be associated with that diaster as the planners, and their supporters as the morons who went along with them.

Very true, many of us just weren't making the money in our energy stocks, but now, things are much nicer! So yeah, Bush did it and we are richer now.
