Immigration bill not ready for prime time 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
As the most attractive land for would-be immigrants, America has the equivalent of the first 100 picks in the NBA draft. Yet through lax border control and sheer inertia, it allows those slots to be filled by (with apologies to Bill Buckley) the first 100 names in the San Salvador phone book.

First it was surrender your liberties to fight those "terrorists"! Now it's surrender your liberties to control those "illegals"!

Just imagine the possibilities! Your government now wants absolute control over all persons applying for work in this country. Which, at this time, would be administered by dual US/Israeli citizen Chertoff. Even better, imagine the possibilities in this country with the foundation already in place for a fascist police state and Hillary as president!

Someone doesn't like your politics, you could find yourself on the receiving end of, "sorry Charlie, no work for you!" And no surprise, Mormon Elders Orin "scrap the Constitution" Hatch, Chris "free trade" Cannon, and Bob "CIA front" Bennett, among others, are all for this legislation.

I just don't think I could sleep nights without knowing the "Mormon Elders" are doing their patriotic best to save that Constitution now "hanging by a tread"!

No jobs for US citizens without Homeland Security approval

2007-05-26
http://pressesc.com/01180202266_eevs

US citizens who apply for a job will need prior approval from Department of Homeland Security under the terms immigration bill passed by the Senate this week.

American Civil Liberties Union pointed out that the DHS's Employment Eligibility Verification System (EEVS) is error plagued and if the department makes a mistake in determining work eligibility, there will be virtually no way to challenge the error or recover lost wages due to the bills prohibitions on judicial review.

Even current employees will need to obtain eligibility approval from the DHS Within 60 days of the Immigration Reform Act of 2006 becoming law.

"EEVS would be a financial and bureaucratic nightmare for both businesses and workers," said Timothy Sparapani, ACLU Legislative Counsel. "Under this already flawed program no one would be able to work in the U.S. without DHS approval - creating a No Work List similar to the governments No Fly List. We need immigration reform, but not at this cost."

Bush will never sign off on such a deal. What the Senators and Bush want is another amnesty in an  endless stream of amnesties (all declaring they are the last one) Bush and Chris "amnesty" Cannon want open borders with Mexico (the same as they have open borders in the European Union). No, this bill will never do. Because Bush and his pals will never secure the border. They don't want to. They are lying when they say they do. They don't have a problem with 12 million illegal Mexicans in this country. They just know that to openly declare such a position is political suicide. We will be able to secure our border when we remove corrupt politicians such as Chris "amnesty" Cannon and replace them with politicians such as Tom Tancredo. Only then, will we be able to secure our borders. Otherwise, in a decade or so, we will be merged with Mexico and Canada and we will have totally open borders and dog eat dog competition for all (except the CEOs and corrupt politicians)

That was an excellent opinion piece. I, too, would support much of this bill IF and ONLY IF:
• We knew all present and future immigration laws would be enforced

  • We first completed the Great Wall of America on the Southern Border, and started construction on a fence system on the northern border, starting at the coasts

  • All key points of the bill, including deportations, fines, and other penalties for both the illegal alien invaders AND companies who violate the law and endanger us citizens for cheap labor could only be changed by a supermajority

  • The President were compelled, under penalty of impeachment, to enforce the law

  • All illegals from all nations were fingerprinted, and other biometric information, such as retina scans, hand geometry, vascular images, facial recognition data, and voice prints were all stored for identification and enforcement purposes

  • Truly tamper-proof ID cards were issued, tied to biometric data and photos on the ID card

  • We would give preference to those who would help our economy or national security, and any guest worker program would be temporary

  • All convictions would initiate immediate deportation, and that our judicial system would be honest about enforcing this

  • ...and finally, again, if we knew it would really be enforced

  •
But as presently constituted, its a threat to our national security, it encourages more invasion/illegal immigration, it gives an amnesty, and it robs American Citizens of any semblance of fairness or justice.

If it's good enough to enforce our sovereignty as a nation it's good enough for the White House. Physical barriers and armed border guards who actually enforce the border are a must, combined with administrators who aren't corrupt and who encourage their agents to actually do the job, and federal prosecutors who aren't bushies, who don't have a desire to throw agents in solitary confinement for years of hard federal pen time for doing their jobs. And courts who won't award drug dealers caught with millions of dollars of drugs with multi-million dollar lawsuit damage awards, paid courtesy of the American Taxpayer.

Come to think of it, we should also make the border patrol the Sixth Armed Force of the United States of America. Militarize the border in addition to all of the above. And don't hire any border agents/administrators until they have been thoroughly screened and mean to enforce the border.

I am proud to say I agree with everything in your post, except I would add some sort of health screening to make sure we control the potential for introducing new or old diseases.

Last time I was on Ellis Island, I was amazed at how the screening and selection process worked there. If the US had its quota of men from Ireland for the year, we turned any additional Irish men around and sent them back. Those who got in passed our health and legal screenings and either had some legal family here to take care of them or proof they had a job so they wouldn't be a burden on the government. The rich (with first and second class tickets on the boat they came over on), who we reasoned were less likely to be in jail or need government assistance, were usually let right in, while the poor faced more rigorous screenings. I don't think we could get away with that today...

From their website (www.ellisisland.org): "The two main reasons why an immigrant would be excluded were if a doctor diagnosed that the immigrant had a contagious disease that would endanger the public health or if a legal inspector thought the immigrant was likely to become a public charge or an illegal contract laborer."
