The Provo paradox 1 Year ago Karma: 0
Marriott School Dean Ned Hill's scolding of Professor Warner P. Woodworth for opposing Vice President Dick Cheney's presence at BYU commencement, published June 13, showed an unfortunate lack of appreciation for the diverse political viewpoints existent in the LDS community.

While the alliteration of "Provo paradox" is appreciated, this letter should really be titled "the BYU paradox"... and if you're looking for a nice alliteration then "the BYU political paradox - a Mormon mess".

Provo is much, much more than the home of BYU.

Hill and Albrecht, who criticize Woodworth as "not speaking for" the BYU administration, were themselves reprimanded last fall for using their tithe-funded positions to organize alumni in support of Mitt Romney's presidential bid. Unlike Hill and Albrecht, Dr. Woodworth never implied that his views were "official."

I'd be really surprised if those clowns are not operating a clandestine branch of Skull & Bones at BYU!

I wanted to see what she was responding to. Here it is...

http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/225068

Then I wanted to see what Warner had to say. Here it is...

http://www.deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,660214663,00.html

I was kind of taken aback by the first statement...

"I and others disagree with whatever Vice President Dick Cheney will say at this Thursday's commencement."

So, I found Cheney's speech. Here it is...

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/04/20070426-12.html

Exactly what is it Warner disagrees with and why is Crystal still upset?

i couldn't agree more! some people are SHOCKED to come to provo and realize people actually live AND work here! ...and have NOTHING to do with BYU! (like myself) although, i realize that BYU does contribute signifigantly to the economy, there are folks that live and work here with other companies unaffilitated with BYU.

If they signed the petition "anonymously then they didn't sign it at all.    You can't do such a thing.  Grow up little girl and learn how things work.  If the signature is not clear and verifiable it isn't a signature at all.  I would love to see how many signed it with things like Mickey mouse or superman because in my experience at BYU many students do this just to get people to quit hounding them.
