Most police officers are good samaritans, so it surprises me that Provo police would be unwilling to help an elderly lady who is locked out of her car. Surely, there is an officer somewhere who has the time to help a fellow citizen, especially someone in her 70's? Shame on the city of Provo for ignoring a plea from an elderly woman who needed help. We do live in a society where selfishness is increasing at an alarming rate, but police officers are typically gentlemen and it truly is sad if this old woman with health problems was disregarded as an inconvenience to Provo cops! Life is about service and serving others... come on Provo police... show some compassion and caring for one of your own!!

I think there is something missing from this article. The police dept. has always been extremely helpful when I've dealt with them and I have several friends who are police officers for Provo (my neighbor included). I think there was more to it than just "call orem pd" but then, I wasn't there so I can't say for sure.

However, even had the police arrived they would NOT have opened her car. This should have been explained by dispatch that the police are no longer supposed to do this and that she needed to contact a locksmith in the first place.

Why? They carry a very thin metal bar in their squad cars for this very purpose that slides into the crack of the door and when lifted up, unlocks the door in the event you're locked out. I have a vehicle that if you exit and shut the door with the engine running, the doors lock and my kids accidentally did this one morning before school, as my truck sat in the drive way running and you couldn't get in. I called Lehi police and within five minutes, an officer arrived and unlocked the door and off he went. It's a nice service they provide to people, so I don't know why Provo police wouldn't in this case?

Old people do not bring crowds with money to spend.

Shame on you Provo! It seems like the people who do the actual living and dying and paying of taxes in this county are the ones treated like crap.
