I would like to propose a solution to a government inequity.

I have observed that many celebrities and politicians have their own security personnel. I would like to suggest that we allow them, and others who feel that our current "one size fits all" approach to law enforcement isn't working, to be given vouchers.

Great letter. I'm glad to see that others recognize that fact.

The great thing about the roads is that it is one of the more fair taxes already. The more you use it, the more gas you use, the more taxes you pay. It should pay for the highway patrol as well if it doesn't already.

The insurance companies recognize that a person's choices in securing their own home influence the likelihood that a payout will be necessary and so the premiums are adjusted accordingly. It would probably be too messy to accurately measure risk and assess taxes accordingly, but you have to admit that there are people who are far less likely to require the services of the police than other people, so there is an element of fairness in what you say even if it isn't practical.

So by that reasoning, should the parents of the more expensive children to educate be taxed more?

Just a note of information. The gas tax doesn't come close to paying for the roads, and it is getting worse. Our cars go farther on less fuel, meaning less gas tax paid for more wear and tear on the roads. With gas prices going up and a strong truckers' lobby, legislators aren't increasing this tax either. Therefore more and more is coming from the general fund.
