Democrats believe that the role of government is to help people.
Republicans believe that the role of government is to help their rich friends in business get richer so they will donate more to their campaigns and keep them in power and to go to war with a country that didn't attack us from time to time.
I think that most Democrats AND Republicans want to help people, and I'm sure both believe that their differing governmental philosophies accomplish that goal.
As a Republican, however, I view the effect of typical Democrat policies as keeping people in poverty while making them dependent on the government dole. Typical Republican policies, on the other hand, help pave the way for people to get themselves out of poverty. I sometimes suspect the motives of nationally elected Democrats, since Democrats depend on a large, permanent base of poor people to vote for them. People tend to vote more Repubican as they become self-supporting.
In a nutshell, the Democrats are good at giving people fish for a day. Republicans are better at helping people learn HOW to fish for the rest of their lives.
Guess which approach leads to more fish on the line in the long run?

Sad, but true.

Both parties are guilty of that. The Clinton's had whitewater, Kosovo, and Bosnia. Democrats are just as guilty with helping their friends get richer and aiding the military-industrial complex.
Wow, what Clinton had the US military spend on Kosovo and Bosnia wars wouldn't pay for ONE MONTH of what we wasted on Iraq. Not to mention 4000 dead brave American women and men.
Wake up!

Very true. I was merely making the point that politicians from both parties want to enrich their friends and commit scandals. I do agree that our current quagmire makes Clinton's scandalous behavior pale in comparision. However, we should still hold all politicians accountable, regardless of the scope of their mistakes.

It couldn't much worse! All we have now is the Clinton News Network (CNN); the Bush News Network (Fox); and the far left networks (NBC, ABC, and CBS). And of course our own local outlet--the PCE and Patrick Byrne daily propaganda leaflet--The Daily Herald.

One question, in the past seven years of a Republican in the White House and a Republican controlled Congress who has fared better, the poor or the rich? Just look at Bush's veto of the expansion of the CHIP program that was supported by just about every Democrat and many moderate Republicans. Is the idea to teach sick kids to heal themselves? Give me a break!
