Emotional assault 7 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I am a BYU fan that had the unfortunate opportunity to take my three young boys to the BYU vs. Utah game and sit just a few rows below the largest section of Utah fans.

I'm not naive enough to think that all Ute fans are as awful as the ones that I was near but the loud ones sure represent the group - like it or not.

It is unfortunate that your sons witnessed that. However, BYU fans have been known to engage in unruly behavior as well. There are good and bad fans on both sides.

I am a Ute fan and am very sorry there are Ute fans who act like this. I went to the game on Saturday and was treated good by most BYU fans, but after the game I went to where the Ute players were leaving the field and going into the locker room. Some BYU fans threw garbage down on the players, which is ridicules! A few years ago I would have went up to them and knocked the stupid out of them ( if that's possible to do to a BYU fan), but I've mellowed with age and just shook my head and walked away. Also I must say that LES is a piece of crap! I know it holds more people than RES, but it appears to be falling apart and the restrooms are small. All in all there are good and bad fans in every sports arena, but the next time a BYU fan says Ute fans are classless, I'm going to remind them of a few things I witnessed on Saturday.

BYU fans are definitely as difficult to put up with as anyone else. Minus the booze, Cougar fans are as obnoxious and as in your face as any other teams' fans. I'm not excusing bad behavior on either side. That guy who allegedly passed out has a drinking problem. (And it's unrelated to which team he cheers for because he'd pass out at a Jazz game, an Aggies game, a Ute game, or a BYU game if he could get the beer). Either deal with it, as it sort of comes with sporting events much of the time, or don't. If you've taught your sons well, they'll know bad behavior and will remember not to repeat it as they get older and venture off to a game without your supervision. But don't come here with the typical, "Your crap stinks and BYU's smells like roses" attitude. No one's buying it. Well, OK, many are but no one sensible is buying it.
