In the debate on editing and or the censoring of films for purpose of resale I have two questions that never seem to be asked. The best way to stop these films is not to buy them in the first place, to edit or not. Just don't buy them. EVEN if we edit them, we still purchase them from the maker of the film, who gets to satisfy their greed via what we consider perversion. They profit.

Stop their profit, and they will quit making them.

Absolutely! But watch the Golden Compass first - It's pretty darn good, then boycott the shows.

I believe that censorship grows out of fear, and because fear is contagious, many people are easily swayed. Censoring movies satisfies their need to feel in control how other people live. This fear is often disguised as moral outrage. They want to believe that if people don't see it, they won't know about it. And if they don't know about it, it won't happen.

Today, it's not only language and sexuality (the usual reasons given for censoring books and movies) that will land a movie on the censors' hit list. It's Satanism, Sexual-ism and a hundred other isms, some of which would make you laugh if the implications weren't so serious. Movies that depict sex often come under suspicion; so do movies that encourage people to think, or question ones self; movies that don't hit the observer over the head with moral lessons are considered dangerous.

Censors don't want people exposed to ideas different from their own. If every individual with an agenda had his/her way, the shelves in our local store would be close to empty.

But it's not just the movies and stories under fire now that worry me. It is the movies and stories that will never be written or made. The movies and stories that will never be seen and all due to the fear of censorship.

I will volunteer to shield the censors from movies with nudity in them. Who is going to shield me from Steven Segal movies, Ben Aflec movies, and all of the bad animated movies that are trying to compete with Pixar?

This is part of the dumbing of America, this censorship. We want the thinking done for us. Hmm...I wonder who's expressed that sentiment before?
We're willing to give up the opportunity to be challenged, engaged, or anything else so we can have something so banal on the screen as to be absolutely unoffended.
My advice is this: Stay out of the theatre. Avoid these mormon movie cuts, turn off the tv. Give up on the idea that you can edit society to fit your view, it don't work. You have to hide. So run along, go hide. You can come out when you're willing to make the choices expected of functional members of society.
