It was great to see Coach Peterson coaching volleyball again! We watched him at UVSC where his new team seemed to appreciate him. Something that BYU had a hard time doing. We understand there is an opening at UVSC (soon to be UVU) for a men's athletic program. We wish that could be a men's volleyball program. We understand that someone has established a fund in the UVSC (UVU) Foundation towards a men's program.

Coaches are like U.S. presidents. It takes some years for a coach to work through his predecessor's decisions and recruits. Coach Patchell has been working with Coach Peterson's talented recruits. These talented young men had the ability to win a national championship. As a team gets closer and closer to championship play, the coaching becomes more critical. Coach Patchell is talented, or Coach Peterson would not have chosen him as an assistant, but he is not a seasoned coach. Always running for national championships is way different from winning national championships.

HOW FAIR? According to those who know, BYU had the player talent these last two years to win more than one volleyball national championship. Recruits of Coach Peterson's preparations for the future were selected for that in mind. It is sad that some BYU players, coaches, administrators, and their families initiated actions that undermined the team's goals and impacted Coach Peterson's career so negatively. Running for national championships is way different from winning national championships. A national championship team involves participants on all levels who are willing to sacrifice personal agendas for the good of the team.
