This link lists political contributions to all candidates through June 30. Type in your zip code and see who your neighbors are supporting financially:

http://www.nytimes.com/ref/us/politics/2008_EG_FINANCES_SEARCH.html#

My LDS ward covers 5 zip codes. I typed in all 5 and Romney had several contributions in my area (Southeast Louisiana) including a couple that are quite substantial (over $3000). None of them are from LDS members.

In fact, surprisingly, he was the top fundraiser in those zip codes. There were a few contributions for Obama, Clinton, and even a few for Paul. I think I may have seen one Giuliani and one McCain, and an Edwards or two. But by far Romney was the top. I was quite shocked by that, living in this part of the country.

As an LDS person, I would never vote for or not vote for someone based solely on their religion. Right now I'm really on the fence between a couple of candidates and need to learn more before I decide. However, I will say that I do think Romney would be the best one to get us on track fiscally and with our health care system - two MAJOR issues for me.

I live in Provo UT no surprises. Almost everyone listed gave to Romney! Who would have guessed.

I know, no surprises in Utah.

But in my area, I was very surprised at how much money Romney is raising, among the non-LDS.

Just for fun, I threw in a few zip codes randomly (not in Utah) and in almost every code I pulled up, he's the top fundraiser.

An even easier way to get an overview is to type in fairly common last names, and see what pops up from around the country. For example, try "Jackson".

Just for kicks, I decided to try "Hinckley"...oddly enough, that last name was leaning towards Giuliani.

I think I'm going to try "Clinton", for fun.

No one in my zip code has donated (to anyone). In the next town over there were two $500 (husband and wife) donations to Romney (I've taught a couple of their children).

Now that I've done it, try Clinton.

I typed the names of most of the major candidates, just as my own little study (will people support people just because they have the same last name)?

The answer is no. The only one I could find that supported my theory was Obama. If you use the last name "Obama" you get only one donation...to Obama. So in that case my theory is correct.

For those who don't want to take the time to click, Mitt Romney is the highest among the last name "Clinton", and Hillary Clinton only has one $250 donation by another Clinton.

Not a scientific study by any means, but a fun little game to play when you're bored on a Friday night!!
