Thank you for writing the letter. I, too, am fed up with hearing about the case. If the officer crossed the line with his actions, then punish him, but she still deserves to get a ticket for having such a filthy, trashy yard. If she wants to live like that she should move out of the city where no neighbors will be negatively affected by it. Either that or she just needs to move into a place where there is no lawn, or the all lawn maintanance is taken care of by an independent company.

I agree. The problem is now the precident has been set, yet I see lawns as dry as this one but in much worse condition...weeds 5 feet tall lurching out at pedestrians on the sidewalk, wood fences splintered and falling over, junk and trash scattered all over. Once the police came by (from what I'm told) and told him to mow the weeds, but that was it. That was about 3 years ago and the weeds only get mowed once a year. This is a single middle-aged man who just bought a new car in addition to his truck -- so money isn't an issue.

Now that the world thinks we are idiots, we might as well not disappoint them and get all over these other homeowners with trashy yards.

I would venture a guess that every city in the nation has city codes governing the states of peoples' yards. The reason they don't make the news is because people don't usually pull a 'Betty Perry' and fly off the handle when approached about it...

But honestly, I have never lived in a city that did not have rules governing how to upkeep your property.

I would relly like to know how people that continually have the police called on them because of thier horribly neglected yard, and dogs barking night and day, get nothing but warning after warning and nothing happens. I would like that office to come and eagerly visit my next door neighbors!!!!

I called Provo police on my neighbor's that had tied up some big dog in the backyard to a tree, no idea whose it was or where it had come from, but it was barking up a storm. Turns out, the house was a drug house (no big surprise) so the cops were still there doing their thing in the morning when I left for work. Sure hope the cops didn't tell them who called in the complaint...

If we don't crack down on our homeowners with trashy lawns, then it's just a matter of time before the jokes change from "rednecks" to "Utahns".

Example:
