Perhaps as we progress through the ranks (based upon the number of posts) we could be called something other than "newbie", "jr. member" and whatever comes after that. I would suggest something more personalized towards the newspaper industry such as: "gopher", "cub reporter", ... "honorary chief editor", etc.
Yep, I think you are onto something there. These titles are just the default set and we can customize them. Anyone else have some suggested titles/ranks?
Right now there are 5 levels at: 0-49 50-99 100-249 250-499 500+

I like Pittakos' original idea to theme it around the newspaper industry. Maybe we could have more than 5 levels, to give more differentiation. I'm not familiar with industry positions, but maybe something like:
0-49 Paperboy (or is it Paper Person these days?) 50-99 Gopher 100-249 Photographer 250-499 Reporter 500-999 Ace Reporter 1000-1499 Editor 1500+ Chief Editor
Something to that effect anyways. Just my $0.02

Why is it that for those of us who were registered users when the old design was used lost our post count?

Yeah, I thought that was kind of lame, too.

We switched bulletin board systems. We tried to preserve as much as we could but not everything was transfered. The other option would have been to start from scratch. We felt that attempting to keep as much user data as possible would make the transition easier.

I really liked seeing the section on the front page of the old design that showed and linked the last 5 comments that were made in the forum. Any plans of bringing that option to this new design?
Yes that is in the works. The front page will actually be changing quite a bit ... well maybe not that much. The general idea for the front index page is that it will act primarily as a promo page. The poll will be back as well as last commented articles. My vision is that the front will be very dynamic and pull various parts of the site at different times during the day to maximize exposure to all sections of the site.
Nice to see it is back in place. You may want to consider making a more distinguishing separation between the title and the poster rather than just using a space. Though in some cases, it makes for amusing reading.
Example:
'Brokeback Mountain' leads Globes by at
Maybe use quotes around the article the and the phrase "posted by" rather than just "by"
Trivial I know, but sometimes I have to take a double look.
