This thread discusses the Content article: Eagle Mtn. works on city imageThey elected people who actually have to state this to each other: "Don't anybody commit any crimes," he told the council. Lifferth posted his comment as part of his council retreat notes on his blog at DavidLifferth.com, and confirmed the quotes to the Daily Herald in an interview. Are no decent people running for office over there or do the voters just not care?

I'm sure that voters care. That fact that you would even consider that notion is very amateurish. The problem is that the voters do not have a crystal ball in order to look into the minds, hearts, and souls of people who are running for office. Perhaps President Bush could help out though since he looked into Vladimir Putin's soul and found a good person there.
Of course, there is plenty of corruption in politics that could be spread around the state of Utah. Eagle Mountain has nothing compared to what Senator Buttars did this past session. Wasn't there a former Utah County Commissioner who tried to get a police officer fired for giving him a speeding ticket? What was his name again. . .?

The situation is like this..... Eagle Mountain is still not above board on their information.
Why did they add an additional week to everyone's utilities last month by using the excuse, "we couldn't get out to read the meters, so we had to add another week onto the bill". Their utilities are read electronically through a new "costly" system and the increase in an individual's bill that I know from out there was almost $200/for the month. HMMMMM Will they move the bill one week shorter this next month? Or will they just home nobody notices and charge the regular monthly amount.
I think Eagle Mountain had a large bond or something due about the end of last month and figured that if they took an extra week from everyone it would cover that expense.... or.... as usual... there is another scandal about to break. Imagine if you normally pay a $350 utility bill and you get one for $500 and they don't extend your payment time how does a normal family adjust their budget? Will they except the normal monthly bill, with the remaining due the next month? Will they nail everyone with their normal late fees?
I understand that they actually have to have the city council approve a credit to someone for a mischarged late fee, is this correct?
Sounds kind of funny to me... oh by the way ... it was cold this month so we are adding a 1/4 increase to your mortgage payment. After all, they don't read meters out theri anymore.... it is electronically read by the wonder computer they have purchased.
A friend of mine actually takes there bill into the office to pay it every month because even when they mailed it the same day they received it the bill would magically show up late... bang!!late fee. My friend would pay it with bill pay and send it two weeks before the due date and bang!!!! late fee... they used the excuse that they have to hold the checks until they clear everyone's bank accounts before they can post the payment.... hmmm...
I am shopping at WalMart and they keep my groceries until my check clears... wait... can't move into my house until my mortgage payments clear each month for 30 years...
Sounds pretty stupid... so my friend walks the bill into the office and makes them post it right them... or will pay with a credit card to verify the funds are there that minute at the office and still.... bang!!!! some months just random .. late fees.
That councilman better start looking at those kind of things..... watch out... Eagle Mountain is still alive and cheating their .... happy residents?
If you ask 5 residents if they are happy and 4 say yes... you will have 80%.... think....

Have you ever heard of budgeting? So you have five weeks on one utility bill; then that means you have three weeks on another. I agree that the city needs to keep the time periods between bills as equal as possible because many people don't know how to budget properly. From what I understand, the city added an extra 6 days to the December-January bill due to personnel being diverted from meter reading to snow removal, and due to the fact the more time was taken off for the holidays. I also did a little more research and called the city and they don't have a wonder computer but like most utility companies, they have a truck with an electronic meter reader. All they need to do is drive up and down the streets. Also, I called my friends in Eagle Mountain and none of them have had a problem with late fees when they send their bill in on time. Either you are exaggerating or your friend isn't being truthful about paying his/her bill on time. Also, the city is going to try an equalization program due to the fact that many people just can't seem to budget more money for utilities in the high use month, so they will try doing it for them. How pathetic is that?
When I budget my finances, I set aside so much money each month for utilities based on my average use over a year's time, and then I add just a little extra to cushion that amount. The problem with people nowadays is that most can't budget their money, but must spend every little bit of extra cash they have. Try this out: in the spring and fall when utility bills are at their lowest, set aside that extra money and use it for higher utility bills in the summer and winter. It takes discipline, but I know you can do it.
Try this on for size. I had Utah Power send me a whopping high utility bill because they decided to estimate my meter readings on a cold winter month instead of go back behind my house to actually read the meter. Of course, my next bill meant that I paid hardly anything. So no matter where you live, you will never find a utopian situation that will baby us, cradle us, or nurture us through all of our problems. I try to be as proactive as possible and rely on myself rather than rely on others.

David Lifferth clearly broke the law when he awarded $20K to a friend for a worthless sewer assessment as mayor pro tem. Lifferth admitted his guilt in a story in the Tribune. He ran to the city council and asked them to look the other way and to be complicit with him in voting after the fact to authorize his illegal transaction. Lifferth is the only person on the city council that has clearly broken the law and done so way beyond what his friend Mayor Olsen ever did. His threat to his fellow city councilmen actually is that if they do not vote the way he wants, he'll dig deep into their lives and monitor them until he can find something for which he can accuse them, just like he did to councilman Blackburn. Blackburn was totally cleared, but suffered months of investigation and anxiety from Lifferth's false charges. If you don't vote the way Lifferth wants, he will make your life very uncomfortable until you quit and move away. Good luck, new city council. You serve with perhaps the most specious person in Utah politics- David Lifferth.

I'm not sure how Lifferth could be worse than Sen. Buttars and other Eagle Forum cronies. Also, if Lifferth has broken the law, how come he hasn't been charged as such by the attorney general?
