RICH LOWRY: Obama's speech flawed at core 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago Karma: -44
This thread discusses the Content article: RICH LOWRY: Obama's speech

flawed at core

This is such a jewel relating to the subject at hand I just have to spread the truth/wealth to the population in Happy Valley. Before you engage in critical comment regarding his religious leader"s how do you respond to this comment from your "church" leader?

Brigham young;

"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind....Cain slew his brother. Can might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin."

""Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so."

The comment is so very, uh...tribal. Tribal! That's the word.

BY's word was law. If death didn't automatically occur on the spot, I'm sure someone in his bureaucracy would make it come to pass.
I wouldn't have stepped across a line drawn in the dirt by BY in those days, would you?!

To bring up past statements by Brigham Young in order to create divisiveness over them all over again is exactly what the Rev. Wright was continuing to do over the 20 years that Obama listened to his divisive and contemptible rhetoric. It is unproductive and is used only to recreate the past.

What Rich Lowry was doing in this article was illustrating why Obama's race speech was "flawed at the core." It didn't explain away the fact of why Obama idolized his pastor and all that he stood for and continued to attend his pastor's church for over 20 years when his pastor was obviously saying many contemptible and hateful things. Obama said in essence that he couldn't disown his pastor, just as he couldn't disown his White grandma, just as he couldn't disown the Black community. This is fallacious because you cannot put the whole Black community under one comfortable umbrella, just as you can't put the whole White community under one comfortable umbrella.

Let's dissect his comment in response to questions about his throwing his white grandma under the bus in response to questions about his comments about her in his race speech. Obama said something to the effect that she was a "typical White" woman. Now, what exactly is the "typical White" woman like? I would be inclined to think that White women come in all types, and, in fact all types of hues as well. Obama has done exactly to all White women in that single comment as he accuses White people of doing with Black people. Stereotyping them.

My opinion is that most White people realize that we can't change the past, just as we can't keep carrying the guilt for what our ancestors might have done into all eternity. Not only is that not productive and forward-thinking but it causes us to readily excuse what should not be excused. Like hateful and irrational divisive speech. No matter who utters it.

Rich Lowry said that Obama could have said "he made a mistake." Of course, we all know that he can't say that simply because in his heart he doesn't feel that he made a mistake. Otherwise he would have said it. He has justified his pastor's hateful rhetoric because he sympathizes with him. And by sympathizing with him he has condoned it, and made excuses for it. Now, at times, we all make the mistake of excusing, out of sympathy, another person's behavior. However it is vital that we understand that it is not wise to do that. Not only does it not help the person we are excusing but it also condones the behavior, and perpetuates it, which is (to use a politically correct phrase) extremely unhelplful.

So, the fact that Obama has not recognized this fateful flaw is extremely troubling. As Rich Lowry said, quite eloquently I might add, it would have been much better if Obama had come out and said that he made a mistake. The fact that Obama couldn't do that, because he doesn't recognize this flaw, is the "flaw to the core" that Rich Lowry was talking about.

For now, Obama's speech worked. But questions about his judgment and candor will linger.
Yes, I am sure they will linger...and linger...and linger in biased conservative publications like the National Review, whom this writer is an editor for.

"National Review (NR) is a biweekly magazine of political opinion, founded by author William F. Buckley, Jr. in 1955 and based in New York City. While the print version of the magazine is available online to subscribers, the web site's free content is essentially a separate publication. Generally the magazine provides conservative views and analysis on the world's current events.

Perhaps the Herald can just cut to the chafe and start having articles from Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Ann Coulter themselves?

RushReader would like that. That and "See Dick Run" is about all he can handle.

Sincere thanks and blessings go out to all English and grammar school teachers in America. Yours is not an easy job (if I dare say so myself).

What on earth does that have to do with the tragic flaw in Obama's character?
