And from the Tribune . . .

Family sues state, feds over deadly bear attack
Family says warnings should have been posted

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_8738266

Mulvey and Ives said they followed proper procedure for camping in bear country, stowing their food in the car. Young acknowledged the police report indicated that there were some Skittles candies in the family's tent.

First, we're asked to take their word that they would not have camped there. Isn't hindsight great?

Second, they "followed proper procedure for camping in bear country, stowing their food in the car", except for those Skittles in the tent. They knew they were in bear country!

I think the bear scared the hell out of the guy and he hid in his tent instead of confronting a bear in the dark!

And there you have it. I had read, in previous articles, where the grandfather swore up and down that this family were experienced campers, and had followed safety procedures to the LETTER, by stowing away all foodstuffs in their car.

Now it has been admitted that there were skittles in the tent.

NO FOOD IN THE TENTS PEOPLE...NOT EVEN SKITTLES...NOT EVEN CHEWING GUM!

Remember...what ever you send out into the world will return to you ten-fold. Do you REALLY want that much nastiness to head your way?

Do we HAVE to be mean here? Can't we all discuss things calmly and rationally, and without the personal attacks?

Gee, was that a quote from you? I guess you don't practice what you preach.

Also, I was just informed that Timpanooke is now a partially developed campground, there are rest rooms and there is running water.

The article states that Wearing flip-flops and without a flashlight, the stepfather searched frantically", it does not say he didn't have a flashlight with him, just that he was searching frantically. Perhaps, in his terror and rush to rescue his boy, he just ran out without stopping to grab his flashlight.
And I am sorry to have called you Dear. We grannies do that often. I certainly meant no offense, and thought it would be pleasant to bereferred to something kindly as is often not done in these posts. I'll not do it again.

Who do you think is being mean here MKG?

Do you think I'm being mean? If so...why? Kindly explain how I'm being mean to you, or to anyone else. Kindly explain how I'm personally attacking you, or anyone else.

Did I refer to the family as white trash? No. Did I opine that they should burn in hell? No.

Did I tell another participant that I hoped his brain tumor would return? No.

So tell me...how am I being mean? How am I making personal attacks?

As far as whether or not he had a flashlight...now look who's talking about assumptions here.

There was another adult present that night. If there had been a flashlight in that tent, why in the heck didn't SHE grab it and give it to her husband?

I don't believe that there WAS a flashlight in that tent.

As for your explanation about calling me dear...kindly remember that all too many times, people have resorted to this as a means of derision and belittlement...as a means to assert their own maturity or advanced years while implying that others are immature in age and mentality.

If you truly used the endearment innocently, and with good intentions, I will readily apologize. However...remember that there is no way to ascertain intentions or emotions in the written conversation.
