This thread discusses the Content article: IN OUR VIEW: Measuring losses in Iraq

Another editorial from the Reich Winger's! newspaper editorial board. How interesting that the writer was able to calculate non combat deaths of other military service persons during Clinton's term but alas none could be determined under Bush's? Perhaps he ran out of fingers and toes?

As for the last paragraphs...If the "Bring 'em on" President says so it must be true just like, WMDs, biological weapons, mobile WMDs, stockpiles of weapons (even if they were dated from the Vietnam era and non-functioning), etc etc.

It has also raised the hope that Iraq can become a foothold for democracy and a beacon of hope in the Mideast.

Oh, right, democracy!

CIA overthrows the democratically elected Jacob Arbenz in a military coup. Arbenz threatened to nationalize the Rockefeller-owned United Fruit Company

CIA attempts to legitimize a tyrannical puppet regime in South Vietnam, headed by Ngo Dinh Diem.

The CIA trained and supported the brutal Regime of the Shaw of Iran.

The U.S. military helps "Papa Doc" Duvalier become dictator of Haiti.

Dominican Republic - Rafael Trujillo, a murderous dictator Washington has supported since 1930.

Ecuador - CIA-backed military forces the democratically elected President Jose Velasco to resign.

Congo - The CIA assassinates the democratically elected Patrice Lumumba.

The CIA trained and supported the brutal Regime of Saddam Hussein.

Dominican Republic - The CIA overthrows the democratically elected Juan Bosch in a military coup.

Ecuador - A CIA-backed military coup overthrows President Arosemana

Brazil - A CIA-backed military coup overthrows the democratically elected government of Joao Goulart.

Indonesia - The CIA overthrows the democratically elected Sukarno with a military coup.

Congo (Zaire) - A CIA-backed military coup installs Mobutu Sese Seko as dictator.

The CIA trained and supported the brutal Regime of Manuel Antonio Noriega.

If that's Washington's idea of "democracy" then you can keep it!

The entire editorial is based on this false premise:

"If the Iraq war helps to keep terrorists off our soil -- and by unseating Saddam Hussein it has, according to a detailed report by the Institute for Defense Analyses -- then it might be seen as a responsible move."

Who the heck is the "Institute for Defense Analyses?" I've never heard of this group. I wouldn't be surprised if it were chaired by Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz.

Instead, look at the Pentagon's recently released report that is based upon the past 5 years' research of 600,000 documents recovered in Iraq. The Pentagon says that Saddam Hussein had no ties to Al Qaeda. Period.

So what is it you would like to see done now?

I am saddened for the loss of life from both sides of these wars that did not need to happen.
