This thread discusses the Content article: California's top court legalizes gay marriageI am aware Utah has many gays and lesbians. I'm grateful we have laws preventing gays and lesbians from getting married and adopting kids. I'm not real concerned about queers getting married. If they want to get married then great, but I do not support the gay community in their attempts to adopt children. It all comes down to whether or not you believe homosexuality is right or wrong. I believe it is wrong so obviously I am against giving gays the same status as married couples.

Lots of Utahns are gay and lesbian, cooter. Perhaps some of the folks close to you. Show humility, huh?

It's okay Cooter, many of us "gay folk" have our own children. Many of us would like to adopt and add to our wonderful families, but it will probably take a few years for that to happen here. So, we'll just continue to have our own children and make the rest of your nervous. Wake up and smell yer postum.

Momof3, I have a son that lives in Portland, Oregon. He has an 11 year old daughter and one of her best friends has 2 mothers. I met the little girl and her mothers. The girl is absolutely darling, as was her little sister. We had the girls over for dinner one night and they thanked us before, during and after dinner for inviting them. Their manners were impeccable, they were well behaved, polite, and we enjoyed their company.
I also found the mothers to be charming, intelligent and very loving. They are obviously doing a great job of raising their girls. I know that I will be chastised by some people here, but I really don't care. I see nothing wrong with 2 women raising a family. I do not agree with homosexuality, but I don't believe it harms the children in any way or gives them a distorted look at life. In fact, it gives them a more comprehensive understanding of differences found in people.
For those of you that think gays should not have or adopt kids, why? Would you rather have the babies aborted? Placed in an orphanage? Put in foster care? Raised in the streets? Starve to death? Or be physicaly or sexualy abused as too many are? Are you willing to adopt any of the millions of babies and children from around the world that are suffering all of that and more? I think anyone who adopts children and raises them as their own should be applauded! And anyone who raises their children with love and devotion and good parenting skills, regardless of what they do behind closed doors, should be applauded as well.
Yes, Momof3, I am LDS, active LDS. Not everyone is as venomous towards you and others in your situation. However, if you do want acceptance, you might look into the Portland area. It is beautiful there, education is great, and you will be accepted there.
