Employment verification plan: Big Brother or big improvement? If MALDEF thinks that unscrupulous employers are the ones that would benefit, then I don't see why they oppose this effort! After all, MALDEF IS one of the pro-illegal alien groups that support illegal immigration and greedy employers who are willing to treat the illegal alien like a slave.
Side note: E-Verify is easy to use, and does not impose any restrictions on an employer other than checking a database. ANYONE can see the process, it is located at

It's use would verify SSN's and would go a long way to decrease identify theft, and the pain that it causes it's unsuspecting victims.
It also has a fail safe process built in. A no-match ONLY generates a letter, giving the employee 90 days to fix the problem. There are some!
For example, when a woman marries, and forgets to notify Social Security that her name changed, she would have the 90 days to update Social Security - before ANY action would be taken.
It is a good program, and allows, RIGHT NOW, for any employer to voluntarily use it. All should be doing so!
