Kitchen is a registered sex offender for having sex with an underaged minor who would babysit their kids, he has also been arrested for multiple fraud accounts, bad checks, etc.
Just based on the character of these two men, I would say that Kitchen is the one in the wrong here. He has the muddy background and at the time, he really had NOTHING to loose by coming up with such scheme.
