I was against the war from the start. I remember the chatter about it while in basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Now, because of it, I'm a veteran. I thank my lucky stars I wasn't in Iraq during my tour, but in Afghanistan where the true perpetrator are still lurking and going nearly unchecked do to the Iraqi distraction. So I've served my country overseas. You can't tell me I'm un-American or unpatriotic. I've given more than the whole administration who put us there, may they be tried for their crimes.

It's amazing how different you view the world and your country after having served in such a capacity. Thankfully, it has opened my eyes and not closed them further.

How sad that we are living in a time when an American has to defend an anti-war stance. We have historically been a country of progress. Our Founding was instigated behind the flag of Liberty; our Founding failures were eventually atoned for in the Civil War. Whether or not the Civil War was just, in need of defense or criticism, is irrelevant today when viewed through the lens of atonement. It was necessary.
Today, we can longer afford to be isolationist and look only to our own interests. Our global community must look to the miracle of America in no less the same way a sailor of old looked to the lighthouse. What better form of government has mankind yet conceived? Yet, tragically, this war has broken that lighthouse, rendered it blind. America has become belligerent in the eyes of the world. America, or rather its current governing administration, has destabilized tumultuous regions, fostered hostility towards its citizens, and worn its noble military far too thin. In a world where distances are electronically erased via the internet, where everyone can and should seek the same ideal and where, importantly, we, and many others, still have the nuclear means to annihilate humanity entire, opposing the criminal, foolish and selfish reasons behind this war is in no need of defense. It is the true American belief! For those who blindly see this war as necessary, defend then the decision to ignore the true perpetrators of 9/11. For those who see this war as a means to prevent further American civilian bloodshed, defend then the hostility towards America this war has created, defend the instability of dangerous regions it has fostered. Sara is right-justice, love and the Peace of God; to know, believe and practice this ideology is to really understand what America is and always should be.

Thank you. I was deployed elsewhere when the Iraq war was started and was also against it. My comrades knew it, and tried convincing me that the Iraq was was justified, but I could not the reasoning and evidence to it. I, too, was deployed 5 times (mostly Asia and South America), and received my veteran status honorably. That said, I too am against the iraq war. I think our valuable resources are wasted there, while the perpetrators of 9/11 got away with murder. Regardless of what armchair quarterbacks who agree with everything that Bush says, there is a large and growing number of veterans who see the fallacy in believing the iraq war is just.

So let me get this straight, you volunteered to go in the Army, but you were against the war? Did you go in just to stir up trouble among the other troops? What was your real motivation? Being a plant for Moveon.org? It is asses like you that go in hating the Army instead of loving it and then come out and moan and groan about cold peas in the chow line, the matresses are too firm or Humvees that don't have showers in them or something trival like that instead of supporting the Commander in Chief, who has kept us safe since 9/11, in the war against Islamic terror.
