WaynesWorld wrote:The importance of the BoM it is easily ascertained in an Ensign article by prophet Benson Nov 1986. Clearly the "Book of Mormon" trumps any conflicting work or book. http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=56a6ef960417b010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____
Quotes from the article:
This was the Prophet Joseph Smith's statement. He testified that "the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion" (Introduction to the Book of Mormon).
The third reason why the Book of Mormon is of such value to Latter-day Saints is given in the same statement by the Prophet Joseph Smith cited previously. He said, "I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book" (History of the Church, 4:461).Also, President Benson said in "The Keystone of Our Religion", Ensign, Jan. 1992, that a "keystone is the central stone in an arch. It holds all the other stones in place, and if removed, the arch crumbles." That said, the cornerstone, or foundation of the gospel, is Jesus Christ. He will not be removed. However, without the Book of Mormon as the keystone holding all the other stones in place, the full restoration of the gospel wouldn't have happened when it did. So, keystone and cornerstone are very different, I believe. Also, about the Church laying claim to unpaid clergy. . .Dallin H. Oaks said in "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go", Liahona, Nov. 2002. . ."Indeed, one of the distinguishing characteristics of this Church is the fact that we have no paid or PROFESSIONAL clergy in our thousands of LOCAL CONGREGATIONS and in the REGIONAL STAKES, DISTRICTS AND MISSIONS that oversee them." (Capital letters added by GRITS) "Professional" - our LOCAL leaders (bishops, stake presidents, district leaders and mission presidents) are not graduates of theological institutions, and are not paid monies. Thus, the claim to unpaid clergy. Women who serve on the local level are not paid, although I can remember a few times that would have been nice.

Dubbs lists the following supposedly as part of the "precious truths" removed from the Bible.
Temples Priesthood restoration Need for authority Baptism for the dead Godhead is not a trinity Nature of God Where we came from Why were here Where we are going after this life Where Christ went during his three days of his body in the tomb Need for Prophets Christ set up a church while on earth Need for baptism Need for works and faith Why Christ was baptised The atonement and what it is The sacrament and it's importance Children don't need baptism before 8
Here he mixes up doctrine and policy with material supposedly taken out of the Bible.
But he fails to show who and from where and how they were removed. Until he can do that, conjecture and opinion on his part.

Dubbs writes, "As has your pastor. // If you conider the percentage of church members who are not paid, and serve and teach, and work in the gospel, it kinda shows how a church should be run, and how it was supposed to be set up."
Wren counsels Dubbs, "Giving one's time for the cause of Christ is always commendable, Dubbs. You should work often in such opportunities not connected with your church. You will meet situations and peoples that will your growth as a Christian."
"However, the point originally was that your church leaders did not receive compensation, which we have found not to be the truth. Some do, particularly in the elevated regions of leadership."

have proof of this? Besides a lieing apostate anti mormon site?
Didn't thinks so.
Read the Desert News when it points out so and so is appointed or reappointed to a Board of Directors of a corporation.
I have read such notes dozens of times over the years. Look it up and learn something.
Oh, that shows you don't understand this at all. Talk to your Stake President or a successful businessman with a college education in your Stake, and they will set you straight.
Or look up Leonard Arrington's books.
David Haight being on a board is not anything that the church set up, he earned this right through his years in business, happens alot in High CEO corporate enviroment that executives retire. Big whoop.
The church actually told those who were still on boards to stop, shows they didn't set it up to begin with.

It could be a shack in the grass, Dubbs, it would still be compensation for their work. That point is not moot.
We already knew they get compensation, nobody denied that here. Your the only dar dar that keeps repeating they get compensation when we already knew that.
You said earlier they didn't.
Nope, prove it or shut your yapper.Yes, you did, and we all know it. End of discussion.

Dubbs finally tells the truth about:
Temples Priesthood restoration Need for authority Baptism for the dead Godhead is not a trinity Nature of God Where we came from Why were here Where we are going after this life Where Christ went during his three days of his body in the tomb Need for Prophets Christ set up a church while on earth Need for baptism Need for works and faith Why Christ was baptised The atonement and what it is The sacrament and it's importance Children don't need baptism before 8
He writes, "There are no historical facts" [about "plain and precious truths" being removed from the Holy Bible}
He can believe what ever he wants, but he can't provide evidencde, then it only counts in the public forum to the extent that is what he believes. Big Whoop!
