This thread discusses the Content article: Toddler hit by mower in Mapleton

Hope he recovers quickly. I'd be interested to hear what excuse those involved have for this incident. The smaller the child, the closer the supervision needs to be. Those on the mower also need to be very aware, especially if there are kids in the household. A couple of weeks ago a 2 year old in Davis county lost toes in a riding mower accident. Wouldn't it be nice if we all learned from others mistakes? Especially for the innocent kids who will pay for the rest of their lives, (or with their lives) for the sheer stupidity of adults who are supposed to be watching over them.

I know the family that this tragic event happened to. The kid mowing the lawn was just doing his chores when the toddler ran out side in front of him. It is surprising that the toddler was not hurt worse than he is. It was just an accident. A bad accident.

It's unfortunate that some people have to automatically assume that someone's stupid when something bad happens. Some people are always looking for someone to blame. They like to get on their soap box and condemn others. Accidents happen Deanna! Worry about yourself and quit being so quick to judge. The family has enough to deal with.

Someone has to speak up for the helpless little ones. It's about time irresponsible parents are held accountable for the damage done to their kids. I know accidents happen. Common sense tells intelligent people that toddlers require extra vigilence, ESPECIALLY when dealing with fire, poisons, water, guns, anything with a blade including mowers, chain saws etc. This family needs to be investigated to ensure this was just a freak accident and that there is not a pattern of parents failing to watch their tiny tots. I see it all the time, small kids being left to their own devices because irresponsible adults assume that the neighbors or another child is paying attention to what their kids are doing. I've lived here over 30 years and my kids are all grown. I know what I'm talking about.
