This thread discusses the Content article: Police arrest man after scuffle with bo staff

Remember, the guy is innocent until proven guilty.

I don't like the sound of it... you remove yourself into your own home, a police officer follows you inside (!) and then you get arrested because you take a swing at the intruder!

Whatever happened to "A man's house is his castle"?

Was the incident so serious that the officer couldn't wait and then coax the man outside after other officers arrived?

I think it is lucky that the officer didn't get himself shot when he entered the citizen's house. It could have been a lot worse.

It scares me that this officer seems overzealous and could have got himself killed. A little restraint and patience on his part, instead of brazen heroics, could have been executed.

JMHO (and it may change after more information is made available).

The whole story most certainly has not been printed. There was not a fight that night until the cops showed up and forced their way into the home, at which point all the defendant saw was strangers forcing their way into his home. We have the right as American citizens to defend our homes and families. Also, at the point that the defendant realized it was the police, he quit fighting, and then was cuffed and taken to jail.

It's also quite a shame that the press feels that they only have to get one side of the story to get to the truth of things. I realize that the defendant should talk to an attorney before the press.

I,also, agree that some patience and tact will usually create a more peaceful outcome over strong arm tactics. I guess that the officers aren't trained to think that way anymore. Pity.

You're surprised that US military troops kick in doors and shoot civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan come then home and act the same way as police officers?

Police have such fragile egos. If you do not obey them they get very agitated. The officer had no right to pursue the man into his house. Any charges should be dropped due to illegal search.
This is not Iraq or nazi germany, afterall.

Wow.. Whatever happened to the policeman is your friend. You all sound like we'd be better off without them. A man goes out everyday and deals with the dregs of humanity. He has to develop an offensive attitude out of self protection. Their charter is to protect the public and make instant decisions to do so.

Here's a police officer that arrives and a street argument. He tells them to stop and this guy turns (obviously very angry) and leaves the scene. The officer asks him to stay and he says no. The officer follows. He made an instant decision that this guy could be dangerous. Was he returning to his house to get a weapon? maybe. But he followed and the man swings at him with a club. Then says I didn't know it was a cop. Was he blind? Was he so angry that he couldn't see a uniform? If so he was obviously still a danger.

No I don't know what happend based on the story but I beleive we give our officers a benefit of the doubt. It's a thin blue line between civilization and anarchy.
