My sister and her partner raised a son in Sugarhouse (a bit more liberal than most of Utah, admittedly. Even thought it was a bit of a challenge early on, he has turned out to be an extremely well-adjusted, non-judgmental loving man. He and his girl-friend (yes, turned out to be straight, in case anybody was wondering) are very happy today -- both are quite artistic and have some amazing talents. I consider him my nephew, and I am quite proud of him.
I live in Sugarhouse. It is probably much more "liberal" than most of Utah, but not much different than most of SLC, I would think. I can only look upon this as a positive and I would be hard-pressed to find the will to move from this area.
I gather from your comment that your sister's son is biologically from her partner. I consider him your nephew and hope for a day when all in our community will as well.
Yes, you are correct about the biology. Thank you for your kind words. I am looking to move to the area for the simple reason that I find an energy of unconditional acceptance there -- including from the LDS residents. I lived there while in college, and loved the friendliness in the tree lined neighborhoods...have an offer on a house now. Hope it works out!

How is promiscuity relevant to same-sex marriage?
Anyone?
If same sex couple are sticking to only one person, I don't see how it promiscuity. However, if couple are switching partners, that's a different matter. (Am I agreeing with notalawyer - oh no, the sky's falling!)
So that leads me to my next question. How would same-sex marriage, which would promote fidelity and monogamy within the gay community, be harmful to society? If it isn't, then why should it be illegal?
This doesn't mean that I think this lifestyle is correct. (Opps, we don't agree again.)
I've never said that it is "correct", either. In fact, it isn't "correct" . . . for me. But for others it most certainly is. If it cannot be shown to be detrimental to society, and in fact, may even turn out to be positive for society, why should same-sex marriage be banned?
How is it positive to have to explain to a young child that Jimmy has two mommies? That is confusing to a kid when he has one mommy and one daddy.
Do you have kids Diz. Because I've found parenting to be a barrage of confusing questions. Of course many of them have to do with science (thankfully I am a scientist, but sometimes the questions aren't based in reality). There are many more questions like those you've suggested above: Mommy, why does everyone else have a daddy and I don't? (because your daddy died in Iraq) Daddy, why do other kids have mommies at home and daddies that work when mommy works and you stay at home? Mommy, why does daddy work all the time instead of staying home and playing with me? Mommy, how come the neighbors have a new car and we drive a 15 seat van build in 1975? Mommy, where does are garbage go and why do we make so much of it? Mommy, when are you going to die, what about daddy, what about me? Mommy, I don't want to die, why do I have to? Mommy, why are those guys shooting each other on the news? Mommy, why did Jimmy call Tommy a ? Whats a ? Why did he hit him? Mommy, why did Jimmy call me a Moron, I said I was a Mormon? Mommy, why did Tommy say Jimmy was going to hell because he's not part of the Church? Mommy, why does my biology book say we evolved from a common ancestor with the chimp when my Bishop says we didn't? I could probably go on for days, but I'll just wait for my child to come up with them and take them one at a time.
Children are Gods gifts to the uneducated.

That's a good way of looking at it. I appreciate the fact that children are unburdened by presumption and free to wonder. I've learned a number of things from my child and because I couldn't answer his questions.

I have four! Kids ask stupid questions, many were indicated above. However, the issue of homosexuality is far different than a kid being mean on the playground or a teacher talking about the THEORY of evolution.
