As legislators prepare to go back to Capitol Hill this month, they would do well to read the Utah Foundation report on Utah's colleges and universities. It will give them more reasons to throw support behind Utah Valley State College's efforts, including construction of a new, state-of-the-art library.

As I remember many of Utah's authority figures condemned this school in the fall of 2004 for doing the very thing that has led to their success......educating their students.

I think alot of people owe UVSC an apology.

UVSC has an excellent faculty who do a remarkable job of creating an environment of learning; introducing all kinds of ideas, debating them, discussing them, fostering and encouraging each other to challenge themselves and grow.

I commend UVSC for doing so much with relatively little and often with the barely veiled contempt or ridicule of the community at large and in the 'shadow' of BYU.

I've had the opportunity to work in close concert with scholars from some of the most prestigous institutions in the world (Oxford, Harvard, MIT, Cambridge) and frequently those who have heard of both BYU and UVSC most often hold UVSC in high regard for a "community college" while considering BYU little more than education-lite, essentially watered down by the LDS restrictions and inhibitions on the notion of a progressive education.

I was particularly impressed by the fact that the scholars I worked with from Oxford were especially pleased with the students they received from UVSC into various of their graduate programs. That says a great deal about UVSC.

I totally agree with this article! The state dynamics will change with in the next 10 years, and as such, if you follow state politics, you will notice that UVSC alumni will be in power, the voting power will be Utah County, and all those who diss UVSC will be looking for ways to catch up!

UVSC is a great school, its focus is not Trade School, but teaching...Westminster is similar to this in their focus, and for you BYU and U of U students, the highest academic school in the state is not BYU or U of U, but Westminster, it's sole focus is on teaching!

Westminster and UVSC will be the schools that are in demand in 10 years, unless the other schools make some changes to their focus!
