"My best thinking often occurs in conversation where people feel comfortable in trying out new thoughts and challenging each other's ideas," Leavitt wrote. "We occasionally recorded them to free ourselves from note taking. These were private conversations among friends."

New thoughts and challenging each others ideas, huh? If that is what he wanted, he should have invited folks from other religions (or no religion) to his little study sessions and studied their material as well. I don't consider a bunch of Mormon politicians meeting to discuss the Book of Mormon and D&C as "trying out new thoughts and challenging each other's ideas."

Perhaps not, but there are a couple things you might consider. One is that the article stated that "...the group reviewed stories from the Book of Mormon, exploring the scripture lessons and how they apply to modern government." That seems like a fairly new approach to me.

The other, of course, is that like them or not, Mormonism is founded almost entirely on ideas that to most others would seem "new."

And the government is run so well now, having any "new" ideas would be a travesty.

Methinks you would have little to fear Mr.Logan. For one thing...Washington D.C. is not a predominantly Mormon State...nor would Romney likely find very many Mormon cohorts in the White House, Congress, or the Senate to sit around and discuss the Book of Mormon and/or Mormon principles with.

I really would like to see a delete option on this forum for those irritating double posts.

President Bush is a member of the United Methodist faith. Did HE try to promote Methodism into federal government?

President Kennedy was a Roman Catholic. Did HE try to promote Catholicism into the federal government?

President Nixon was raised as a Quaker. Did HE try to promote Quakerism into federal government?

President Carter and President Clinton are Baptist. Did either of THEM try to promote Baptist principles into legislation?

"You must not fear...fear is the mind-killer...you must turn and face your fear, allowing it to pass through you...and after it has passed through you...all that remains is yourself."

What exactly is "methodism?"
