This paper serves a largely Mormon audience so of course there is interest in the contestants who are LDS. If the religious backgrounds of other contestants interests you, feel free to bring that up in discussions if you wish. Have a good day. 
The national media serves a largely Christian (Protestant) audience, but I don't see that they list out every time someone they speak of is Christian. I just think that panders to the audience instead of serving the audience as a credible news source. I guess every news source is biased in some way and the Daily Herald is just biased when it comes to the LDS Church. I guess I should have just kept my mouth closed (Utah County rule #1: Don't question anything related to, directly or indirectly, to the LDS Church).I think you're making an issue out of nothing. I read the article, it doesn't make a big deal out of the religion. It's just mentioned a time or two. Read the headline. It's more of a "battle between the two Davids". No big deal, unless you make it one.
You bring up "National media". Why did the national media make a big issue out of Mitt Romney's religion. He preferred to leave religion out of it, the media wouldn't let him.
