Deepest condolences to the family, fiance, and friends of this soldier. We've been seeing this too often lately...soldiers being killed while on their third and fourth tour.

It is a sad state of affairs that this war has gone on long enough for a soldier to even accumulate four tours, and for a military that is stretched so thin that it even allows it.

And still no end in sight.

Typical media hype to make this death into a political thing. It is sad he died, but he died defending your family against Muslims. Celebrate that you don't live under Muslim control for one day instead of turning this into a anti-war Dem puff piece.

All truth said was TRUE. No media hype.......
There is NO GOOD REASON, these guys should have to do 3 and 4 tours.....We just lost a young father in my area and it was his 4th tour....BUT his kids have the flag that draped his casket to remember him by........ AND HIS MEDALS.. THANKS PRESIDENT BUSH

My condolences to the family and fiancee and friends also..

Did this young father voluntarily re-up for 4 tours?

Don't place sole blame upon this President Blondie...this has been coming for a very long time.

First of all, there are worse things in the world than being Muslim. Muslims are not the enemy.

And second, don't go cheapening this hero's death with petty arguments. I highly doubt he would want you politicizing something he sacrificed so greatly for.

My husband is currently on his fifth tour to the region. Trust me, they know what they are in for.

"If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,

"Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.

"Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say,

"Our Country is in mourning, for a soldier died today."

Sorry but you're wrong every day the headline in the paper should say:

"Our Country is in mourning, for too many soldiers have died today."

Yet this young soldier chose to make the military his career...and he CHOSE to re-up for every tour he served.

True, but not the issue, Jaye. I'm sure some will volunteer for a fifth, sixth and seventh tour as well. So, you don't think it is sad that the war has gone on long enough for soldiers to accumulate four (or more) tours, and that the military is stretched so thin that it allows it?

Regarding the latter, how about the lowering of recruiting standards as evidence that it is getting "stretched thin." Any thoughts on that?

The U.S. Army met its recruiting goals for fiscal year 2007, but had to pay recruiting bonuses and lower its standards. The Army also dipped into recruits from its Delayed Entry Program. It faces an even tougher challenge in 2008 as it seeks to expand enlistment.

The Army has been offering recruits bonuses of up to $20,000. It also brought in more recruits without high school diplomas, who scored low on aptitude tests, and who had to get waivers for criminal offenses. Many defense analysts say this policy is lowering the military's standards, but the Army rejects that claim.

The Army acknowledges that these measures have made their recruitment job more difficult for 2008. They'll likely have to accept more recruits without diplomas and hand out more waivers for criminal records.

In the meantime, the Army is losing captains at an alarming rate due, in part, to extended deployments in Iraq.

Perhaps McCain will have an answer for this. He just has not thought of it yet.

Hey, if elected, he can always bring back the draft.

Dear Jaye,

BUSH did get our troops into this so-called war.
You can have your opinion and I will mine..

NO, this soldier was called back up to 2 more tours because of what he did in the service. DOES that make it right... NO!!!!!

I have always hated the fact that OUR NATIONAL GUARD is not protecting our borders, but fighting for a country that does not want us there. The Iraq government has had plenty of time and help from this country to get their's going in a good way, but it is still in shambles. Our troops are being used in the worst way to defeat the warring people of that region. They like to have turmoil and fighting.....LEAVE IRAQ and they will HAVE TO fend for themselves.

Haliburton and the other private companies are making a fortune on the back of OUR SOLDIERS.....It is time that the expense and their contracts for the US are nullified. Bush is who got them their jobs and contracts, the facts show that him and cronies are then reaping the benefits. JMO

Look, the military, God Bless Everyone, attracts a certain crowd. They don't take AP science. They don't go on missions. They sleep thru HS. And many times they do like the vagabond style because they see the world without having to pay to see it.

Well, my son is in the Army National Guard. In about a month or so, he will commission as an officer. Earlier this month, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Before college, he served a mission. Before that, he took several AP classes in high school.

Serving in the military has been his dream since he was a little boy. At the end of this month, he will be going to South America to participate in an intelligence-gathering mission (don't know where he'll be or what he'll be doing). All his friends in the military are there of their own choice. They don't want to leave their families and be in harm's way. However, this is what they do. As the mother of a military man, of course I don't want him to leave us, especially his wife and baby. Of course I don't want him hurt or killed. Of course I wish all the troops in Iraq could come home, especially before my son has to go there. However, I will support my son wholeheartedly, and I will continue to vigorously pray for an end to our presence in Iraq.
