This thread discusses the Content article: Campus is diverseLast time I looked diversity included having differing beliefs, not homogenous beliefs running through a variety of differing backgrounds.

Last time I looked diversity included having differing beliefs, not homogenous beliefs running through a variety of differing backgrounds.So... having a different 'belief' is a qualifier for diversity? To me, that is pretty narrow minded to make that the ultimate qualifier for diversity.

I think BYU has a very diverse campus. The more you go there, diverse it gets.

Palintology - An obscure and absurd religion headquartered in Wasilla, AK. Its adherents worship Sarah the Shopper, who knows nothing about foreign policy, believes in witches but not in global warming, and can talk up a storm and gut a moose quicker than you can say "John McCain". The Palintologists look forward to the second coming of Sarah in the republican rapture of 2012, when they believe the mothership will come and take them all to the promised land.

lol, that was supposed to be facetious right? Because I'll agree religion, beliefs, values etc are not "ultimate" qualifiers of diversity, just a PART of the definition (I'm not sure where the "ultimate" inference came from). If not, then people fleeing religious persecution, teaching tolerance of their differing beliefs, and spreading the message of religious freedom did so in vain.

BYU is a good school. There is a lot to be said for BYU being a "diverse" school (as mentioned, students from all 50 States, different countries, different languages, etc., are represented at BYU).
You could also make the counter-argument that because the overwhelming majority of BYU students are LDS they are not diverse at all.
In my opinion, BYU is diverse in many, many ways but homogenous in others. That's not a bad thing and it's not something that should be changed just for the sake of being more diverse.
If someone doesn't like the blend of ideas, personalities, etc., at BYU (or any other place), they are always welcome to find something more to their liking and to go there instead.
