Longtime GOP member endorses Democrat 1 Month, 4 Weeks ago Karma: -2
This thread discusses the Content article: Longtime GOP member endorses Democrat

There have been times when I have voted for the democrat, not this one. Jason Chaffetz has great ideas, is a great person, and does listen.

I have not been impressed with the democrat opponent running. He might be conservative, but he has for a month, twisted and distorted Jason's views, instead of concentrating on his own.

I am voting for Jason Chaffetz.

Arc, you have spent the last 6 months distorting Jason Chaffetz's record. Now you are claiming Bennion Spencer is? How rich is that?!?

First you tell us that Chaffetz supports tents in the deserts.

Then you tell us he wants to give visas to all illegal aliens with the fancy title of "Pathway to deportation."

Then you tell us he supports Guest Worker visas, the very thing he spent two years attacking Chris Cannon on.

Wait, I'm sorry. What am I blaming you for? Chaffetz is distorting his own record and making people like you spin around trying to keep up.

Some of the Chaffetz highlights include trashing David Leavitt with a Saturday morning smear on some immigration proposals that he now adopts.

He trashed Cannon for taking DC money "who owns Chris Cannon? Utah or DC." Then the week after he wins he goes to DC and climbs into the gutter, begging for DC money.

He gets caught in a tough situation by wanting to put all Hispanic looking people in tents with razor wire so he says he is only doing what the Governors Association supported. They of course vigorously deny this, because they don't.

At least Chaffetz admits it was his hairbrained idea to do the razor wire.

Chaffetz is a conman, pure and simple. His positions are not even consistent between themselves. How can you support tents, then "Pathway to deportation" visas then finally a Guest Worker visa - all of them for all illegal aliens? Can't be done.

That's like being a dog, cat and cow at the same time.

Oh but please do Arc, explain to us again how Chaffetz is so wonderful. How you drink his bathwater. And how by pointing out the obvious it is now Bennion Spencer who is distorting.

Chaffetz is Utah's own Bill Clinton with some fancy Australian girls to go with it.

Tents..Still?
That criticism started with Honda..

Jason never said anything Hispanic looking people or putting women with children in tents with razor wire.

Rep. Honda and Senator Clinton have been sponsoring a bill which would spend $100,000,000.00 per year for 6 years to help immigrants (and their employers) to this country with English and jobs. I have found no mention that the immigrants would need to be "legal".

Could this be a reason to get a sympathy vote.

Two bills he has sponsored, the one in July and one in September could give him reason as well. Several large groups, including NCLR and JACL are backing the July bill. See
http://honda.house.gov/legislation/2008/integration/
and
http://www.house.gov/list/press/ca15_honda/FamilyImmBill2008.html

The JACL National Executive Director that Honda pulled in to this had lived in Alpine Utah, president of the board of Alpine Country Club.

Floyd Mori

http://www.jacl.org/news/Chaffetz_Response.pdf
which isn't listed anymore at
http://www.jacl.org/news/news.htm
but it does list Mr. Honda..

Jason's democrat opponent, at this time, changed his stance on immigration, which has always had a pathway to citizenship, and still does..

See the NRCL statements from the candidates.

The original website is still at
http://www.votesmart.org/speech_detail.php?sc_id=396956&keyword=&phrase=&contain=

Why would the democrat candidate soften his stance on this issue the same time Jason is being blasted?

Jason seems to have let his democrat opponent off the hook re: "Jesus would vote for me", but Bennion sure won't let go of tents. It isn't even in Jason's 7 part solution for Legal Immigration.

Jason has identified four core conservative values which guide his policy positions. They are:

* Fiscal Discipline
* Limited Government
* Accountability
* Strong National Security

Jason has said every policy decision will be guided by those principles. He cannot support policy initiatives that violate those core principles.

Jason has also prioritized five key issues on which he plans to spend his political capital in Washington:

* Fiscal discipline
* Energy Policy
* Education
* Illegal Immigration
* National defense

Vote Democrat if you want Utah to get a voice in DC.

Not hard at all to understand that a new Republican is not going to have any "clout", "power", "influence" (Hath's words not mine) etc. in a strongly Democratic Congress.

I haven't given up on McCain/Palin, and Jason Chaffetz went to meet with her in Alaska, prior to her being announced as the VP running mate.

Jason will do fine.
