This thread discusses the Content article: N.M. governor blasts Chaffetz on immigration

Jason called for a federal detention facility in the west to house federal prisoners. Only those convicted of a crime would be housed in this facility.

He concurs with the Western Governor's Association, which passed a resolution calling for the federal government to build a facility to house its own prisoners.

Federal prisoners who are not violent criminals are often released because there is no prison space to hold them. The detention facility would house those who are convicted of federal crimes - whether or not these people are illegal aliens.

Jason has also suggested that tent facilities similar to those in Arizona are good enough for our soldiers in Iraq and should be good enough for our federal prisoners here at home.

Jason never said that using tents was the WGA's idea, nor that the purpose of them was to "round up" illegal immigrants into tent cities.

Rep. Congressmen Mike Honda, publicly stated on the Doug Wright show, that when he condemned Jason's comments, at the time Honda issued his criticisms he had not yet heard or read anything written or said by Chaffetz, nor had he spoke to or met Jason, but had his information from NCLR (La Raza).

It is sad that Gov. Bill Richardson appears to have no more information than Rep. Honda had, when he made this statement.

Mr. Bennion Spencer, while making attacks on the immigration plans has changed his.

http://www.votesmart.org/speech_detail.php?sc_id=396956&keyword=&phrase=&contain=

Shows what was on his website prior to the attacks.

Mr. Bennion dropped requiring English, Fines, and getting in Line for citizenship from his plan. Why?

Bennion:
Bring undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and put those who are in good standing on a pathway to citizenship so that they can contribute to society by paying their fair share of taxes.

Just because someone doesn't think it is fair for someone that comes to the US without permission, to become a citizen when others have been legally waiting - should they be called a racist?

In a statement released Thursday night, Spencer disagreed, saying that Chaffetz has injected race into the immigration issue.

I'll bet MECha supports Bennion Spencer for Congress!

Is there no end to the lengths (or in the case of this topic, depths) these La Raza and these Democrats will to go misrepresent Jason's position on illegal immigration? And where is there no voice of reason in the media who will, when crafting an article for public consumption point out that misrepresentation? The words ad nauseum come to mind when contemplating how much airtime the media has granted this blatant lie in an attempt to give the democratic candidate a snowballs chance in the Amazon at getting elected. For all their bluster, the poor Dem doesn't have a prayer. Nonetheless, I feel morally obligated to present the truth to those who bother reading the comments to the articles.

Point one - The Western Governors Association recommended building more detention facilities to house fugitive aliens who otherwise might be released from prison early due to a shortage of capacity in our current prison system.

Point two - Sheriff Joe Arpaio saves millions of dollars for the state of Arizona by housing criminals in tents surrounded by barbed wire with the warning to whiners, if it's good enough living conditions for our troops, then as a prisoner, you have no right to complain.

Point three - Jason Chaffetz does not, nor has he ever advocated housing non-criminal illegal aliens in these detention centers, nor has he ever said anything about nationality or ethnicity. He believes that if you are a fugitive illegal alien who has committed a criminal act while on US soil, it doesn't matter if you are from Canada, Portugal, Mexico, Croatia, or the Galapogos Islands, you belong in one of these detention facilities until your sentence has been fulfilled at which point you should be and will be deported.

Point four - Jason Chaffetz liked what he heard in the Western Governor's plan. He also liked what he heard of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's solution for housing criminals. He's a smart, creative, solutions oriented guy, and he took the best part of two great ideas and combined them into another great idea which would solve a very serious problem--the 600,000 plus fugitive aliens who need to be locked up.

Can I make this any clearer, or does supporting La Raza's agenda also reduce brain power so that this clarification is still incomprehensible?

Even Texas can manage to dredge up a good idea on occasion!

Getting tough on 2 million illegal alien drivers

New license has expiration date for police to monitor visitors' stays

After the Texas Department of Public Safety estimated 2 million of its 16 million licensed drivers are illegal aliens, the state is denying illegals access to IDs and driver's licenses.

Texas is now requiring applicants to prove legal citizenship status before they can receive or renew their driver's licenses. And the plan goes one step further: Legal immigrants are now required to have their licenses stamped with "temporary visitor" and an expiration date for the applicants stay in the U.S. - a tip-off for police.

Utah and "The Brethren" welcome illegals! Get a driving permit AND hold up the line at the grocery store redeeming those WIC vouchers. Plenty of welfare money for the third-world in Utah. Economic crises? What economic crises!

Joe, this is sloppy journalism. You repeat what others have incorrectly reported, "Chaffetz has said previously that the 600,000 fugitive immigrants should be put in tents surrounded by barb wire," but you don't quote Chaffetz himself. You know why? Because you can't. He didn't say this.

All this in spite of the fact that he told you he didn't say this. Yet you report that he did, anyway.

This is simply dishonest. You should retract your statement that you attributed to Chaffetz without quotations.
