Chess Club readies for tourney -- The Pleasant Grove Chess Club is preparing for a Scholastic Chess Tournament on Saturday at the Community Center, 547 S. Locust Ave. Registration is $20 and will be taken at the event. Check-in for kindergarten to sixth graders is at 8 a.m. and for 7th to 12th graders is at 1 p.m.

Baptist building dedication -- The First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, 344 E. Center, is having its new building addition dedicated at a dedication service on Sept. 28 from 1-3:30 p.m. Pastor David Schultz presents the Worship Service at 11 a.m. each Sunday with Children's Church meeting during the service. Sunday School for all ages begins at 10 a.m.. Family Bible Study meets on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

A Farmington man was arrested Saturday after allegedly coercing a South Salt Lake girl into moving with him to Las Vegas.

Heroes Among Us -- Funded by private and state contributions, the piece, called "Heroes Among Us" was sculpted by Karen Jobe Templeton as a memorial to the victims of the Crandall Canyon Mine collapse. The bronze artwork is being prepared at Lehi Arts Foundry on State Street.


P.G. High School updates football stadium

Pleasant Grove High School has been undergoing nip-and-tucks over the last year, one of which will proudly be used regularly for football games -- the new stadium.
