Chess Club readies for tourney -- The Pleasant Grove Chess Club is preparing for a Scholastic Chess Tournament on Saturday at the Community Center, 547 S. Locust Ave. Registration is $20 and will be taken at the event. Check-in for kindergarten to sixth graders is at 8 a.m. and for 7th to 12th graders is at 1 p.m.

The night of Sept. 24 was just another night for most; for 21 lucky girls at Pleasant Grove High School the night was like a fairy tale.

Cities and organizations support PG -- Cities and organizations across the country are showing their support for Pleasant Grove concerning the upcoming Supreme Court case, Pleasant Grove vs. Summum. The case will begin on Nov. 12.

Approximately 500 participants gathered for a HOG WILD Benefit Motorcycle Ride Saturday at Timpanogos Harley-Davidson of Lindon.

Baptist building dedication -- The First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, 344 E. Center, is having its new building addition dedicated at a dedication service on Sept. 28 from 1-3:30 p.m. Pastor David Schultz presents the Worship Service at 11 a.m. each Sunday with Children's Church meeting during the service. Sunday School for all ages begins at 10 a.m.. Family Bible Study meets on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

A Farmington man was arrested Saturday after allegedly coercing a South Salt Lake girl into moving with him to Las Vegas.

Lindon's aquatic facility should be open Memorial Day weekend 2009 if the project continues as scheduled.

P.G. unit gets military award -- The 405th Civil Affairs Battalion in Pleasant Grove, recently returned from a rotation in Afghanistan, was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation last week.

Heroes Among Us -- Funded by private and state contributions, the piece, called "Heroes Among Us" was sculpted by Karen Jobe Templeton as a memorial to the victims of the Crandall Canyon Mine collapse. The bronze artwork is being prepared at Lehi Arts Foundry on State Street.

Pleasant Grove High School has been undergoing nip-and-tucks over the last year, one of which will proudly be used regularly for football games -- the new stadium.
