Pageant a brilliant evening for contestants

Chelsea Cooper was crowned Miss Payson 2008 with Shaelyn Riding and Sadie Gurley named as her attendants on Saturday, March 22 after a night of singing, dancing, and spontaneous questioning.

PHS Paysetters take first in New York competition

The Payson High School Paysetters recently returned from New York City, New York, where they competed in the 2008 Champion Dance Nationals on March 8, 2008. The competition was held at the College of Staten Island. The Paysetters competed in the novice team division in the jazz dance, military, hip hop, and kick categories. The team placed first in all of the categories and also won the "Best in Class" trophy. The senior members of the team competed with their senior dance in the medium ensemble category and won third place. In this category, the seniors were up against all of the teams--some of them being much larger than Payson.


Eight women to vie for Miss Payson title

Eight contestants will vie for the coveted crown of Miss Payson on Saturday, March 22 in the Payson High School Auditorium. Tickets for the event are $8.00, and may be purchased from the contestants until March 17.


Candidate speaks at Payson High

Learning about the United States government and the upcoming elections is something that happens daily in Mr. Griffin's AP Government class at Payson high school. And recently students were given a first hand opportunity about learning about elections when a United States Congressional Candidate came to speak to them on Wednesday, March 5th. David Leavitt, a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in Utah's Third Congressional District came to address political science students and spoke to them about his life experiences that helped him decide to practice law, work internationally to promote judicial reform and to run for Congress.

Goshen Elementary School receives grant for listening books from Nebo foundation

Pamela Lynn, first-grade teacher, at Goshen Elementary, received a grant for listening books through the Nebo Education Foundation.


Plan for I-15

On Thursday, The Senate majority caucus announced their position on the re-building of I-15 through Utah County. The project will run from 12300 South in Salt Lake County to Spanish Fork only. It was initially thought it would make it to Payson, but the cost was to great.


Mapleton Junior High donates in memory of Charlotte Mecham

While reading the obituary of Charlotte Mecham, former assistant principal Lynn Mecham's mother, the Mapleton Junior High Student Council read that in lieu of flowers donations could be sent to the Huntsman Cancer Center. To honor her memory and to support Mr. Mecham, the student council started a cancer legacy fundraiser.


Kindergarten registration planned

Kindergarten registration for the Payson Area Elementary Schools will be from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M on March 20.


4-H leaders recognized for service

The Utah County 4-H leaders banquet was held February 11, 2008 in Provo.


Local students raise 'Koins for Kenya'

For our service project this year Mt. Loafer Elementary joined forces with Koins for Kenya.
