Eight Orem women will be competing for the opportunity to represent the city during the coming year as the Miss Orem pageant takes to the stage Saturday at 7 p.m. at the SCERA Arts Center.

21ST ANNUAL UVSC AUTO EXPO AND SWAP MEET -- Utah Valley State College will host the 21st annual Auto Expo and Swap Meet on Friday and Saturday on the UVSC campus and at Thanksgiving Point. The event will feature more than 600 car entries, eligible for more than 110 awards. The Auto Expo is among one of the largest car shows in Utah and includes local car clubs and unique private collections. This year, Dennis Gage will visit the expo while filming his TV show "My Classic Car" which appears on the SPEED network and reaches more than 75 million households in North America. The expo will also host Charley Hutton, one of the top automobile painters in the United States.¬ ¬ 

Pet owners who want to take their animals with them into the grave at the Orem City Cemetery, can now do so -- with conditions.

In anticipation for next summer's sun and fun, the city of Lindon is planning a new aquatic center for its residents.

Strawberry Days 2008 was officially kicked off last week with the Rodeo Queen Pageant and the naming of junior and senior rodeo royalty. After being judged in horsemanship, modeling, public speech, impromptu question and interview with judges, the royalty was chosen.

Childrens' Book Week was kicked off on Monday as puppeteers entertained a crowd of children and parents in the Keith Christeson Theater at the Pleasant Grove Library. Approximately 60 people watched as the entertaining group Gashlaria performed storytelling and then a musical puppet show.

Eagles support platform -- The Fraternal Order of Eagles Pleasant Grove Aerie 3372 donated $250 towards Miss Pleasant Grove 2007 Whitney Merrifield's platform for Challenge Day, a national nonprofit organization focusing on breaking down stereotypes and prejudices among teenagers.

The Orem City Council refused on Tuesday to create a separate set of laws for youth instruction businesses within its home occupations ordinance.
