Emerson Hart's year-long tour to support his debut solo album, "Cigarettes and Gasoline," ended in March and produced a pair of hits in "If You're Gonna Leave" and "I Wish the Best for You."

In addition to pursuing their own artistic endeavors, Springville residents Bill and Marilyn Brown have, for many years, been committed patrons of the arts. The Browns's newest venture will further their personal artistic ambitions and continue their public support of the Utah County arts scene at the same time.

Since "God's Army" kicked open the door for movies thematically tied to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there have been a fistful of movies about men on a mission -- an LDS proselytizing mission, that is -- including "Suits on the Loose," "The Best Two Years of My Life" and "The Other Side of Heaven." "God's Army" itself was about male missionaries, as was its sequel, "States of Grace."

I first encountered Jim Webb in Robert Timberg's remarkable portrait of five Naval Academy graduates, " The Nightingale's Song."
