LOCAL OPINION: Provo Canyon residents call for lower speed limits

As residents of Provo Canyon, we the undersigned applaud the editorial of The Daily Herald on Sunday, June 15, 2008, in which the Herald argued persuasively that the speed limit in Provo Canyon must be controlled and reduced. How many deaths and serious accidents will UDOT and the policing agencies allow before finally coming to the same conclusion?

The dramatic events surrounding the Texas raid and seizure of 400-plus children points out just how deeply divided the citizens of America -- including Utah -- are about child protection. Despite sincere efforts, Utahns still have not figured out what we, as a society, want from our child protection system.

LOCAL OPINIONS: Provo really knows how to celebrate

Several years ago, on the evening of July 3, I got a call from a frustrated resident who lives along the Freedom Festival Grand Parade route. He was frustrated by the noise created by the people camped out in front of his home. I told him how to contact the police department, and he did, but after all the police department could do, he was still frustrated. So I got in my car and went down personally.
