The Summer Reading Program is off to a great start at the Springville Library. There are over 1500 kids signed up, ages 2-18. Springville Public Library would like to thank the following people/organizations that went above and beyond with their support: Friends of the Library, Dr. Darren Chamberlain, Sam's Club and Little Caesar's. The Library also received valuable contributions from The Springville Kiwanis Club, Central Bank, C.K. Playground Apparel, Seven Peaks, Deseret Book, Burger King, McDonald's, Sonic, Wendy's, Del Taco, Nestle and Ream's. Thank you for helping to make the Summer Reading Program possible. |

As the weather warms and people venture out to the garden, softball diamond and backyard they run the risk of back injury. The back specialists at Utah's SpinalAid Centers of America suggest some simple ways to prevent back injuries from five common summer activities. Gardening, sports, lawn care, golfing and water sports are trademarks of summertime fun but they can also be very damaging to the back if people don't prepare before doing any atypical activities.

The dramatic events surrounding the Texas raid and seizure of 400-plus children points out just how deeply divided the citizens of America - including Utah - are about child protection. Despite sincere efforts, Utahns still have not figured out what we, as a society, want from our child protection system. The events in Texas should cause all Utahns to examine their expectations of child protection agencies and the system that surrounds them. On what basis should the government step in to protect children from abuse and neglect?

All things Art in Springville invites the public to an art show and artist's reception at the studio, 935 S. 1000 East, on Saturday, June 28, from 5 to 9 p.m. this painting of a beetle is by Klye Hurst, it is ink and acrylic on watercolor paper. Hurst is a student at Snow college and studied at All Things Art for five years.
