The best defense against proliferative diabetic retinopathy is to keep the Hb A1c at your goal and to have yearly eye examinations. A recent study from the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California-Los Angeles "found that patients who took Avandia (rostiglitazone) were less likely to develop proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
