Come on and take a free ride: I'd rather like to know who's going to bail me out, you know? My debt/income or debt/assets ratio might be on par with that of some investment banks, but nobody's offering me $700 billion, or even 700 cents. Sheesh.

This summer, we set our sights on those artist-designed T-shirts that the Gap was selling as part of its limited-edition Whitney Biennial Collection. We were particularly drawn to the one by Chicago artist Kerry James Marshall, which features a drawing of a pigtailed girl, fist raised in defiant optimism, declaring, "EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT. I JUST KNOW IT WILL."

'Welcome to Watermelon World," is how Shaaron Saunders of Orem greets people at her door. The 65-year-old professional organizer admits to being a collector from way back.

She has been collecting watermelon for 20-some years. Visitors to her home are hit smack dab between the eyes with red, red, red! Watermelon red, that is.
