LEHI ARTS COUNCIL Summer workshop registration open The Lehi Arts Council has released its Summer Workshops for Children program schedule and registration is open until the classes are filled. Classes will run for two weeks, Monday through Friday.
Information on the classes is available at the Lehi Legacy Center, 123 N. Center St.; at the Lehi Arts Building, 865 N. Center St., Lehi; or online at www.lehiarts.org. Subjects vary: Auditioning 101, cartooning, beginning embroidery, sculpting, lighting design, stage makeup, musical theater and more. There are classes for preschool-age children, elementary-age and for those 12 and older. Class size is limited and cost per subject is $40 to $50, with most classes scheduled in the morning. VALLEY CENTER PLAYHOUSE 'Backstage' reveals behind the scenes "Backstage" is playing Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Center Playhouse, 780 N. 200 East, Lindon. The performances will run through May 23. "Backstage" was inspired by Michael Frayn's comedy, "Noises Off." It details the antics that have gone on behind the scenes at the Valley Center Playhouse for 30 years. It is called entertaining and educational. The play was written by Jody Renstrom, co-owner of the playhouse, with her husband Keith. The cast include Jamie Gritton, Jackson Mecham, Amanda Palmer, Shalyn Schumann, Stephen Matthews, Matthew Palmer, Emily Leishman, Kyle Jameson, Alisa Nelson, Tom Leishman and Brynne Thomas. Tickets are $6 regular admission; $5 for students, children and seniors, and $25 per family. Babes in arms and children under 5 will not be admitted. ALPINE COMMUNITY THEATER 'Annie Warbucks' audition coming up The Alpine Community Theater (A.C.T.) has announced auditions for the summer production of "Annie Warbucks," the sequel to "Annie." The production will run Aug. 1 to 6 and 8. Auditions will take place on May 14 at Timberline Middle School, 500 W. Canyon Crest Road in Alpine. The audition schedule is listed at the theater's Web site, www.alpinecommunitytheater.org. Those who audition should come prepared to sing a one- to two-minute selection, and bring their own music. Accompanists will be provided if needed. Those auditioning should be prepared to read lines and learn some dance steps also. Each group must arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled time for registration. Musicians are also needed, including pianists, bass, cello, violins, drums, percussion, guitar, banjo, keyboard, saxophone, clarinet, flute, English horn, oboe, trombone and trumpet. ALPINE PLAYHOUSE 'Three Little Pigs'/'Wild Things' shows The Alpine Playhouse will present "The Three Little Pigs" and "Where the Wild Things Are" on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays, April 29 to May 21. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $10.25 for adults, $8.25 for children. Tickets can be purchased 24 hours by calling 800-838-3006. Tickets are also available in person after 3:30 p.m. at the theater box office, 81 S. 100 West, Alpine. Written for the Alpine Playhouse by Britt Smallze, Heather Westenskow and Patrick Livingston of the "Tuesday Night Supper Club" musical comedy team, these two original one-act musicals are fun for both children and adults. This run is the premiere of both shows. Auditions for 'Phantom' -- The Alpine Playhouse at 81 S. 100 West in Alpine will hold two sessions of open call auditions for all 'Phantom' roles on May 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and May 21, also from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Call-backs will be held May 21, at 1:30 p.m. Selected cast members may be invited to be part of the Alpine Theatre Company. Company actors have the opportunity to accept roles throughout the season. There are no minimum performance requirements or obligations of any kind for company players. 'Phantom' runs Sept. 30 to Nov. 5. Rehearsals will begin at the end of July. Auditions will be held at the theater. Those who wish to try out should come prepared with a one-minute monologue of their choice. Singers should bring their own Broadway-style sheet music. They should schedule their audition time slot by calling the Alpine Playhouse office 492-0499, and leave their name and phone number if they get a recorded message. MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY Native American Dancing workshop A workshop on Native American dancing will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the museum, located at 55 N. Center St., Lehi. Each participant will learn to dance the dances of local native American tribes, what each dance means and the cultural aspect, the dress and the music. Teacher is Howard Wagstaff. Cost is $2. Workshops are designed for elementary age children. Pre-registration is required due to limitations on enrollment. Enrollment is done on a first come first serve basis. To pre-register, call 768-7180. Scout patch available -- The museum also offers a Scouting patch obtained through the completion of a treasure hunt tour throughout the museum. Scouts may come individually and with a group. The purchase of the patch, which has been approved by the National Parks Service, may be made at the museum for $1.
