This noncredit course is designed for non-Spanish speaking restaurant staff to interact with Spanish-speaking employees and clientele. Participants learn work-specific commands for employee hiring, scheduling, training and supervising. Also includes instruction for attending to Spanish-speaking customers. No prior knowledge of Spanish is necessary. Location: Liberal Arts building (LA) Room 112 on the UVSC campus. Friday The U.S. Equal Employment Commission will hold its technical assistance training seminar for employers, human resources professionals and management about Equal Employment Opportunity laws. This year, attendees will gain an insider's view of the type of cases the EEOC Phoenix District Office will be paying close attention to in the next few years. Michael P. Aitken, director of governmental affairs for the Society for Human Resource Management, will provide an overview about legislation that could change the workplace. A local plaintiff's attorney and defense attorney will look at how employers can prevent retaliation in the workplace. A representative from the Department of Justice will discuss citizenship and immigration status discrimination. Other topics include a legal update, understanding race discrimination and important information about conducting internal EEO investigations.
