Provo High student wins young entrepreneur scholarship -- Provo High School senior Mark Walker was one of three winners of the fourth annual National Federation of Independent Business Young Entrepreneur awards.

The other winners are: Weber High School senior Brayden Gardiner of North Ogden and Tooele High School senior Grant Boren.

The Young Entrepreneur awards is a scholarship program that provides $1,000 in tuition assistance to winners attending the university, college, community college or vocational/technical institute of their choice.

To earn a scholarship, students were asked to write two essays, one on their entrepreneurial achievement and personal goals, and the second on their views about the importance of free enterprise. Standardized test scores, GPA, and class rank were also considered.

BYU advertising student gets merit award -- Hunter Sebresos, an advertising student at Brigham Young University, received an award of merit at the One Show annual college competition.

Sebresos is one of 58 finalists and his work will be displayed at a Madison Avenue gallery and published in the One Show awards book.

This year's competition called for students to design ads that would show the promise of hybrid vehicles. Sebresos' ad showed gas caps surrounded by spiderwebs, moths and wasps, with tag lines such as, "A lot can happen between fill-ups."

Technology

Provo tech incubator launches genealogy web site -- Provo Labs, a technology incubator, and Everton Publishing, a genealogy research company, will partner to revitalize and launch a genealogical Web site.

Provo Labs will rebuild an existing Web site, WorldVitalRecords.com, to include a vast library of genealogical resources, including international record databases, references to top genealogical resources, a blog planet, podcasting, videocasting, Webinars, expert advice, training, and user-generated content.

As part of the agreement, Provo Labs will share its proprietary search engine tool, PlugNSearch, with Everton. Everton users will be able to use the PlugNSearch tool to receive historical and biographical data and specific information about cities, countries, customs, and cultures.

"This partnership will allow us to promote shared genealogical resources," said Paul Allen, CEO of Provo Labs and founder of MyFamily.com. Provo Labs is an incubator for Internet companies, such as 10Speed Media, LDS Media and Funding Universe.

Coldwell Banker adds four sales agents -- Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage added four sales agents to its Utah County sales team. They are: Julie Bryner, Kathy Culbertson, Dean Griffin and Dave Shelton.

It turns out those who believed Utah was immune from the housing crisis were wrong. I foresee a price correction coming soon as the inventory starts exceeding demand.
