Readying for Air Force Two Print E-mail
BRITTANI LUSK - Daily Herald

The potential presence of Dick Cheney has made a political dent all over Utah County, but his presence at the airport isn't going to inconvenience too many people.

Though the vice president will land at the airport in Salt Lake City, he'll leave Utah from the Provo Airport.

Provo Airport Manager Steve Gleason said there will be limited flight restrictions this evening. Gleason said the restrictions won't affect very many people, and those affected have been notified.

Barbara Glann, spokeswoman for Salt Lake International Airport, said the airport is accustomed to handling high-profile guests. There shouldn't be any problems.

The kind of plane Cheney will fly on has not been specified, but it will technically be Air Force Two. Air Force Two is the delegated name of any plane the vice president is on. The same goes for the president and Air Force One.

According to the Air Force, the vice president, the first lady and others, including cabinet members, travel on a C-32, a specially configured version of the Boeing 757-200. The body is the same, but inside there are four compartment. The first houses a communication center, bathroom and 10 business-class seats. The second section is a state room. It has a private bathroom, an entertainment system and a convertible divan that folds out to a bed.

The next section is a conference and staff facility. The last section holds 32 seats.

Gleason said the vice president's plane will not be the largest the Provo airport has ever seen, nor will it be the first dignitary of this type -- President George H. W. Bush and President Bill Clinton once made stops at the Provo Airport.

The largest plane Provo can handle is a 757. Gleason said the BYU football team flies on a 757.
