Planting -- Funding Universe -- short Print E-mail
Daily Herald

One axiom of success dictates that successful people sacrifice what they want now for what they want later. No one understands this better than Funding Universe CEO Brock Blake -- and he wouldn't have it any other way.

"You have to love what you're doing because you can't do it for the money," Blake said. "It takes a long time for the payout."

Funding Universe started in April of 2005 with the twofold objective of first helping entrepreneurs prepare their ideas so that they can be funded, then connecting the entrepreneurs to angel investors and interested venture capitalists.

The company was originally the idea of myfamily.com founder Paul Allen, but then the idea was turned over to Blake who ran with it. Funding Universe got off the ground with the help of financing from Grow Utah Ventures, Allen, and $50,000 Blake was awarded from Junto Partners.

In the short history of Funding Universe, Blake and his team have faced many challenges including how to juggle limited resources and personnel, and to take advantage of a huge opportunity.
